"I Was Just Shown The Bill..." side comment

We usually drive to Disney because it is soooo much cheaper than flying and renting a car. We have driven without kids and flown once with 1 child but this October we are driving (straight thru 22hours) with an 8 year old and a 2 year old.....it should prove interesting!! We have always researched our trips first and found very inexpensive (but nice ) motels to stay at because we were never there anyway....just needed a bed and a shower. We did our first trip together in 1995 for under 700 and that was our hotel for 6 nights and 2 parks and food and gas and shopping, can't forget the shopping!!! And to top it off we chose a motel that let us fill up for gas for half price. We like like to travel on a budget but not vacation like we are on one.....the deals are there you just have to look for them!!!!

October 2005....Can't come soon enough!!! Spending Halloween with the Mouse!!! :earboy2:

Please tell me your secret! I am in the beginning of the planning stages of a surprise trip for my neice and we're looking for 3 days/4 nights on a moderate resort at WDW in September 2005. There is so much information on all of the websites that I have been searching through. Please give me a place to start.

Thanks
Tennile

I had to laugh about going into the DIS mode. Does anyone else go into that mode as soon as someone says-"We're thinking about going to Disney sometime next year."?

My poor neighbor said that the other day, and I must have kept her talking for a hour. Plus sending her all my links, including this one, and our 2 dis guidebooks. She must think I'm nuts, I just got so excited for her I pratically had her daily schedule planned by the time I was finished.
This one tops that!! Last year my DH and I were having lunch at McDonald's. I overheard 2 women a couple of tables away and they said "Disney World". I gripped the table and hissed to my DH "I am NOT going over there, I am not going over there". I sat there for all of 30 seconds before I hopped up and said "I hope you don't mind but I was eavesdropping. Are you going to WDW?" The long and short of it is that I gave her my e-mail addy and a couple of links and lots of tips. Lo and behold about 5 months later I got an e-mail from someone I didn't know. It was the same woman. She said they had just gotten back from their trip and said thanks to me they did their trip (the whole entire group of them) for about 1/3 of what they would have spent.

I am SO totally relating to going into Dis mode!!!

The best place to start is these boards!!! Although I considered myself an unofficial "disney expert" when I joined the DIS I realized I had a lot to learn.....everything you could ever need to know is right here!!! We are going in October and I thought I knew where we were staying but now I am doing more "research"!!! Just ask lots of questions and someone here will definately know the answer. GOOD LUCK!!!! :cheer2:

When I saw that price tag I was like YIKES!! we have to help these people. I know that going to Disney can get expensive. I use to live 1 1/2 hours away and had learned that lesson growing up. After marriage and family--I decided to go back as a family. Took advantage of the old Magic Kindgom Club through work.(which then turned into the disney club) Then I saw the DVC thing. I got up the courage to take the tour. I had been to other timeshares and knew how much of a PIA they can be. My 2001 trip I bypassed that DVC option. Went back in 2002 and decided what the heck--I have nothing to loose. Well Oct 2003 made my purchase for less than one of my 10 to 13 day stay!! Correct--you are reading that correctly!! Ok, so I have to sacifrice for no vacation from 2002(sept) until my building at SSR opened 2004(june)--and it was well worth the wait. YAHOO!! I was not happy when after I signed those papers I had to wait. . .but I lived. I will share that since I have made my purchase have had several people at work that wanted to rent--I see an add-on hopefully before the end of the year.

I am helping out a co-worker that really wanted to stay at the Poly. Him his girlfriend and his 4 grandkids--had the same isssue with the number 6. We finally got two prices--either 13000(for 1 room--conceirge I beleive) or 7900 for two rooms(regular lagoon)--so now he is looking into renting from a member.

I enjoy helping out people to save money--

ok--so I will Hawaii bound for 2006--part trade out with DVC--part will be booking--who would like to help me?? I already have the wizard pub books!!

One of the reasons we bought into the DVC resorts was to save money. The other day, my wife asked me what our vacation would be costing us, and I replied, "It's all paid." Sure, we will be buying passes, but we will actually be saving about $50 per pass over the old park hopper passes with the new MYW pass. Sure, I pay my dues every year, but I pay my taxes every year too. And with the ability to prepare only a few meals in our fully equipped kitchen, do laundry in our 'condo' with Disney supplied washer and dryer and detergent, we will save more money and time. ::MickeyMo

mowsluver, there are 7 of us and we go for that 11-14 days and that amount of money does not seem unreasonable at all to me. We go all out, meals etc. but with savings on things like kids saving their own money for souveniers etc. Hope this helps. :wizard:
