I was driving up to NH last night and saw flashing lights behind me. A car zoomed passed on the shoulder and then about 20 marked and unmarked police cars were behind us. I figured it must be a stolen car. Good job by the police. By the time we got up to them the driver was handcuffed on the back of the police car. Scary stuff when you think about it. They could have caused some serious accidents.

LAWRENCE — Investigators say two city teenagers stole a red Honda Civic and led police from several communities on a high speed chase that ended in their capture on Interstate 495 North in Amesbury last night.

Amesbury police put out "stop sticks" to puncture the tires and slow down the speeding car.

The driver - Hector Rivera, 17, of 15 Ames St. - was booked on multiple charges, including reckless operation of a motor vehicle, operating after revocation and suspension of his license, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, larceny of a motor vehicle, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, passing on the right where prohibited, failing to stop for a police officer, speeding and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

Rivera was expected to face other charges filed by state police, one for endangering the life of a state trooper, who had to run out of the path of the Honda while standing outside his cruiser on the Route 213 east onramp, according to police.

Also arrested was Jeremiah Guzman, 19, of 109 E. Haverhill St., a passenger in the Honda. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and receiving a stolen motor vehicle. He also faces potential charges from the state police.

Rivera and Guzman were being held last night at the Lawrence Police Station and expected to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court today.

The Lawrence police auto theft patrol began the a pursuit of the stolen Honda on Fern Street after being alerted to loud exhaust and squealing tries. Methuen police got involved as the chase headed up Route 213.

State Police joined the chase after the car entered I-495.

"A State Police trooper got involved and began to chase the vehicle," Lt. Eric Anderson of the State Police said. "We continued to follow the vehicle along with Lawrence and Methuen police."

Anderson said the chase ended when the car drove over the stop sticks in Amesbury.

"They got flat tires and went into the median."

Thank goodness it went by you and you didn't get caught up in it. I always feel bad for those innocent people who can't get out of the way and end up hurt or with car damage.
