On Tuesday night I was one of the many that was chosen for the "stay in DCA for an hour after closing" dream. It was the first night of that particular dream which was a bit exciting. We were given lanyards with the date in a sticker at the top of it indicating what day it was good for. Since DCA closed at 6:00, we were to meet in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, where the Drawn to Animation show is. There were cast members everywhere. They were taking photos galore. The 2 guys on the stage were playing trivia games with the crowds and then they played interactive songs to keep the crowd excited. I asked one of the cast members at the gate how many lanyards they gave out that night and I was told that I could look up on the internet for the prize page. She told me that she was not sure if it was confidential information or not. I did hear one Dream Teamer say that there were about 325 people that showed up for the prize that night. They held us back there until they had notice that the park was cleared. Then Mickey & Minnie came out and we were told to go hit the rides.
As far as I could tell, all of the rides were running. There had not been much of a crowd during the day on Tuesday anyway, but it was nice to have no wait for anything. My kids waited about 5 minutes to board California Screamin. They did have to add a train to CS as they were only running one. I guess they realized that they really needed more than that to handle the rush. My son was told that they plan on only running two on those nights.
There was not much else open during this time. There were a few food places open and there was a couple of stores open. The main focus was really on riding without the wait.
I think that Tuesday night was not the best gauge of how it would be normally. I think that during the summer, when the crowds are in full force, to have a park that is, well like a Tuesday in January, will be great. It was really neat to be part of the inaugural group. And it was great to have a little bit of magic bestowed upon us. It made for a special trip.
