I Was Braced!!!!

Sounds like he was trying to get you to get the million dollar smile.

I had braces for 5 years straight. It totally sucked. At the beginning they said I only needed them for a year, but somehow it evovlved to 5. I really wish I could of had invisaline.
I'm really glad I got them!I had to get buttons with mine....

I had regular braces for a year...maybe a year and a half. Yeah they hurt at first. Mine hurt so much a few hours after I got them put on...but after the first two days, it's really not bad. Then for tightening, it just feels....well tight. Not painful at all. It's just the inital first day or two that are bad. Just take an advil and you'll be fine. Oh and eat LOTS of ice cream!
Is their not a good occasion for icecream?!lol

I'm going for my first appointment next week and perhaps my impressions (my friends hate it, it feels like the clay is going down your throat)

I went for a refferal appointment in grade three, but it was too expensive at the time and the guy is a kook. The place I'm going to now has less patients and you can get your braces on quicker than other places. I'm not sure if I'm getting impressions done next week, I'd like to get it done and over with.

What I'm torn about is the clear & white braces.
People they they stain, others don't. I want the clear ones because there's a guy who has them and I think they look cool, but if they stain I don't want them.

I have had braces for almost 2 years (March)
It took me at least a week to eat normal foods
My braces don't have the bands on them, just metal, but it still hurts to get them adjusted, instead of bands..they make the wires thicker

i had "Porcelain" braces (non-metal)
i had them for my top teeth. no, my teeth are not stained.

if you drink sodas, they will more than likely stain.
if you don't drink sodas, they won't.
If you don't take care of them, they will stain.
If you do take care of them, they won't.

i had bottom braces from 4th-8th. top braces were from 5th-8th.
then i got a retainer, but i lost it.

now there's talk of me having surgery to remove my wisdom teeth because of overcrowding...
oh joy.

Yeah my dental work included getting four permanent teeth removed (laughing gas though so it wasn't bad), and then the year or year and a half of the braces. And now I have what they call a permenant retainer. It's in the back of my teeth and no one can see it, and it comes off when I am 18, no big deal. If you have the option, do this, it's so much easier than a retainer!

Good luck to everyone getting braces!

Hahaha and I am weird I love the molding thing! You get to pick a flavor and I like the feeling.

No braces. :goodvibes

If I had the braces on for another year, I'd go crazy.

Ahhh Braces! I remember those days. Brush your teeth alot! You don't want yellow teeth with little white dots where your braces were when they come off! I had mine on for about 20 months. At first it is a bit painful, but you will grow accustomed to it epecially when it comes to getting them tightened. In the end you'll have a beautiful smile I think it's worth it.

i have a dentist appt next week and i think were going to talk about braces then....i actually hope my teeth are bad enough bc if they are bad you can get them on base and theyre free. if not though i hav to go to a german dentist and get them there...

It totally is!

I am actually getting braces next week. Lol.... The real kind though. Metal and gross.

Does it hurt to get regualr braces on? Does anyone know?

Cuz I'm kinda a scaredy cat and well yeah I might just run away if it does...

The dentist says I will probably wear them for 1 1/2 years. My friend had to wear them for 3 so I guess I'm lucky.

Other than that I have never had a cavity and have nice white teeth. :goodvibes

I've had braces in for just over a month and their already saying I should only need them for another few months before I can have them out!!! The 1 and a half years is only a estimate and isn't right most of the time. I was supposed too have mine in for 3 years. LOL

I hav ethem hopethey make your teeth the way u want them

OMG THE MOLD.... EEK!!!!

When they first gave me the mold, they held it for like a minute. I couldn't breathe, couldn't swallow, couldn't nada. The braces, as mentioned before, only hurt for the first week. Your first tightening might be a bit awkward, considering the fact that is doesn't hurt but more likely pull. It may hurt a few days after the tightening, but after the first (approx.) 4 visits for tightening, you get used to it. Take motrin, it really does help. MILKSHAKES!! :) It's a perfectly good excuse to have a niiice cold milkshake. YUM.My braces stayed on from December 9th, 2005 to January 4th, 2007.

Well (first of all I can't believe you brought this thread back) and I never got them that week. I have an appointment to get them on aPRIL 9TH. They had to reschedule us. That is also the day I get my finger cast off and I go to the repiratory doctor for a check up on my asthma. Ew Doctor Day!

I've had my braces for a little over a year. For me, they don't really hurt much, just a little when they get tightened.
My brother had his braces on for 7 years :sad2:

My impressions were fine
They gave me a choice of mint, straberry, cherry, blueberry, lime, banana and something else.
I chose mint to be safe.
I could breath, I didn't try to swallow because my friend always complained that it went down the back of your throat.
It honestly was not that bad.

I didn't get a flavor, plain plastic tasting foam.As a daughter of a dental professional, all of my personal wants are thrown out the window and they just bang around my mouth to hurry up and get done.Yeah, all of the staff loves me!lol
I had to get different size trays, they couldn't find one big enough (I have a clinically huge mouth),then a rookie tried to take my impressions the first 3-4 times, then it took someone experienced 5 times alone and once with the doctor until we got a perfect impression with every tooth and ridge in it.
I had an impression session from heck.
