Help me convince her, what it like to live in Florida? you here story about the snakes, alligaters and the bugs. Is it really that bad? I fill for all the money we spend to go to Walt Disney World we should live there. BTW we live in Snohomish WA. and are DVC members. I know if we move where I would be on week nights either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon.:earsboy

Well tigger:

I lived in florida for 7 years. We lived in the Fort Lauderdale area. Like you my husband fell in love when we went to visit my parents one x-mas. So I went along with the idea. We moved down from boston. At first it was awesome, having the beach basically in your backyard!!! NOSNOW!!!! but it can be difficult work wise to find a decent job with benefits etc. I was then diagnosed with MS and our situation became really bad because of the heat. Year to year We could not do the things we loved because it was to hot for me etc. We used to go on weekenddisney trips all the time withour son. So we finally decided to come back to boston in 98 and my MS has gotten much, much, much better. We still go down at least 2x a year to Orlando and miami. I love disney/universal and my dream would be to live there for 4 months out of the year and in boston the rest LOL. My husband's reply is yeahwhen he hits the megamillions lottery LOL. It is a very fun place to live and dependingon your situation it might be right for you!!!

Good luck

Sorry I did forget to mention the bugs are for real. The stories you hear are true the flying cockroaches etc, the lizards alligators well, those are less visible. You really just need a good extermintor!!!

It's hard to define what makes a place special for any individual. I've only lived in Florida a short while, but I can't imagine leaving. Just a moment ago, I saw four stork like birds fly by my window. The wildlife is amazing. Yes, there are a lot of bugs. I had an upclose and personal experience with a large palmetto bug right after moving here, but nothing like that since. The mosquitos are bad for me. They don't seem to bother my DD or sister. We don't have problems with bugs in the house. We live a few blocks from the lake, so we've not seen any alligators. I did see one snake. It was in a flowerbed. It took off as soon as it saw me. The birds are beautiful. There are so many exotic types.

It has been hot recently, but it is hot in many other areas of the country right now. Yes, it is humid. It really hasn't seemed that bad. The thunderstorms can be very intimidating. In another month, we should be beyond the daily storm threat. Even when it storms, they don't last very long.

There is so much to do in a reasonable proximity. I love running over to Downtown Disney for lunch or dinner. We have passes to both Disney and Universal so that we can go whenever we want. If we go and it is too hot or too crowded, we just do a few things and then head home. Very nice! I love being able to watch Wishes from my front porch.

The traffic is heavy and people drive pretty nuts in Orlando. It is pretty easy to find your way around.

We've not met anyone that wasn't nice since we've been here. Luck? Maybe.

Maybe I will feel differently in a few years. I doubt it. I really like it here.

I lived in Orlando for 3yrs and loved it. Now, I am trying to get back with a family of my own and it isn't so easy.

There was always something to do...it's happening.
Yes, there are bugs. I never saw many mosquitoes though. There are palmetto bugs (flying roaches) but there are roaches where I am now. Never saw a snake, but lived on a lake. Gators don't bother you if you don't bother them. Oh and Armadillo's are fun to watch in the evenings. They are really slow and clumsy.

If I could get a job to support us, we would move without questions.

Housing is cheaper there too.
