I want the Deluxe property, but need to do it cheap

Me, DH, our two DD - my SIL/BIL & their two kids - my MIL/FIL all stayed in a two bedroom villa at the OKW resort. It was $350 a night at the time and we all split it. The only thing is that you have to take Buses to get to the resorts; but the rooms were roomy and it had *my favorite thing on vacation* a Washer and Dryer!

We are staying at the Poly next July. My suggestion would be to book thru AAA, and do your trip in late July rather than June. This year, value season at the deluxes begins July 20, so the rates are cheaper. We are also saving 15% thru AAA. Still not cheap, but better than full rack rate, because I don't believe there are any summer discount codes on the Poly.

Well - the Swan and Dolphin in my humble opinion - are certainly deluxe! And, you can get great discounts most of the time. OR, how about renting points from a DVC owner. You can find that type of arrangement right here on the Rent/Trade Board. Other than that, discount codes and AAA discounts are about the only other way to save $$$.

You have gotten some excellent suggestions so far. Realistically speaking, Disney is not a cheap vacation, especially at a Deluxe. Once I am sure of my dates, I book what where I want to stay. I belive you can book at least the rooms at 500 days out. Then I can take all that time to pay it off before I go. (I never really thought of making a payment every week until I read it here!) But for me it really reduces some of the sticker shock, and I can usually pay at least $50 a week without too much pain. I also use the Disney Visa, because it is like "double dipping." You get Disney rewards to spend on your vacation just by paying for your vacation. (only works if you pay it off in full each month.) Lastly, I watch for codes. The past two trips I have been able to save over $300 each trip by upgrading! (once by post card pin, this time by Disney Visa code.)

I book packages with Dining, because I like having everything paid for before I go, but you can also check out Mousesavers, because she often has links to dsicount park tickets. Have a great trip!

I have started checking into renting DVC points. Can you rent those for the regular Disney resorts or only the Vacation Club ones?

you can but it is definitely NOT worth it

you can get a 2-bedroom at OKW for 22 points in off season - so around $220 to $264 per night - (remember no fri or sat)

but even just a moderate same time - 16 points for ONE room. that only sleeps 4. so around $160 and up for it

then with the deluxe Poly - you are taking about at least 36 points - so $360 this is a garden view. (this is priced according to this year, 2007 - since the prices for the resort have gone up I am sure the points will go up too) Again ONE room.

so it is definitely better to use DVC points at DVC resorts.

VWL is a beautiful place - but definitely more expensive - again off season (adventure) - 30 points for a 2-bedroom so $300 to $360 per night.

a studio will be 12 points - so $120 to $144. I would go with a 2 studios (despite their much smaller size) if you think anyone would cancel on you.

You don't want to be stuck with a 2-bedroom when you have to pay for it.

some members allow cancellation if they can rerent the points. Get a contract so you can see what this members rules are. Some don't allow cancellation at all- if you cancel they kept the money - despite being able to rerent.

the member controls everything.

my figures were based for a price of $10 to $12 per point. if the member charges more than $12 -then remember that when you compare. (some members charge $14 to $15 per point)

When you rent DVC points, don't you have to send money to a person you don't know and then hope they keep up their end of the deal?

Even if you get a contract, they could still not follow through and then you have to pay a lawyer on top of everything else just to get a judgement...then hope they follow through.

Sounds very risky to me. Am I wrong? Is Disney somehow involved?

I got my AKL standard room for $129 a night with a 40% offer which expired in march of this year (ended up getting a free upgrade to savannah room view;) ). The rest of my resort stays have all been with some type of discount too.

Keeping your eye on these boards for discounts is the key. If you haven't already registered for a possible PIN code or postcard offer, you need to register at www.disneyworld.com. With a little luck and a little pixiedust: you will get an offer. You can lookout for historical discounts at mousesavers.com which will give you a heads up as to when these discounts are released.

Good Luck:wizard:

In theory, you're 100% correct. As I understand it, Disney has basically no involvement whatsoever. Typically there is a contract involved, but even still, it's only a little more than a formalized handshake. One large dvc renting site I've seen has a pretty formalized process involving a three-way call with Member Services as part of the reservation process, etc. Usually, they will send you a copy of the reservation confirmation, etc. In general, people who rent a lot can provide one or more references from previous renters, which also helps to take the worry away.

From what I gather (never done it myself, but looking into doing so), the incidence of issues is actually very very low despite the seemingly risky nature of it.

That sounds cool. Do you have a link? =)

well the DVC moderators can ban you from the Dis if you cheat someone.

what I do is soon as receive the confirmation send it to the renter. It should be in their name. then they send me the first part of payment. the other waits until 90 days before they leave.

every member has a different way of during this.

but asking for a contract and the reservation confirmation before you send them any money is reasonable. (my opinion)

some members want to wait until they receive payment to put the reservation in your name. but the members has all the options.

there is one time a member got cheated. they had asked for full payment before the vacation started. they didn't cancel the reservation when they got nothing. the person went and never paid the member.

the time when a member cheated - well anytime you see points being offer at $5 or $6 be careful. this is too much off the price. so you need to be very, very careful. especially when everyone is saying $10 if not $12 per point.

It doesn't happen alot here. believe me if I got cheated would want the world to heard about it.
:scared1:

most people would.:thumbsup2

here's the link to the DVC RENT/TRADE post on the DISboards...

we have rented out our points before. we made the ressie, provided the conf # to the renters, and when the money order was received, we mailed the paper ressie to the renter. we had no problems. it's a nice way to stay at the resorts for at a lot less money! points typically rent for $10-$11 per point...not bad for a deluxe resort! best wishes! :wizard:

If I wanted to, I could get half a dozen people from different parts of the country to tell you they'd rented points from me. And I could talk on the phone, too.

I would never do that and I do believe that most people are good, but a lot of them aren't honest. Something like that just seems too easy to fake.

Not trying to talk anyone out of it, but I wouldn't do it unless it was someone I knew and trusted. That's me. I've been told I have "issues with trust" though. :)

alot of trust is definitely required.

here though less trust than the so called contractor who calls at your door univited and tells you that they MUST fix something immeidately.

when you deal with people any people that is a level of trust involved.

you can also ask for references of Dissers who have rented points before...we rented from others before we became DVC owners

... Is Disney somehow involved?
Disney isn't involved in any shape, form or manner. This is an agreement between an owner and the person who wants a reservation. So, if you have any problems, Disney will not get involved at all.

You have to weigh the risks versus the benefits.

another suggest but only for 5 days - Sun-thur (leaving on Fri) - rent a reservation from a DVC member.

you can then get either 2 studios or a 2-bedroom. 2 studios much, much cheaper.

but a studio will sleep 4.

OKW has 2 queen beds, the others have a queen and a sleeper sofa (see why you need 2 studios)

renting a DVC resort is probably your best option.

VWL, BWV, BCV, OKW, SSR and the new AKV - would be your choices

OKW is the economy, followed by AKV and BWV (standard views only in both), then SSR, after that BWV (preferred), BCV, VWL, AKV.

...so, you can only book a DVC thru a DVC member?? :confused3

Awesome! Im on my way now =) Hoping to get a decent price for our 1st Anniversary :cool1:

I do not think that GF or Poly discount too often! You have abetter chance with the normal prices of WL AKL or even Contemporary...their starting rates are much less expensive...AND then hope for a code on top of that!!!!! Good luck!

I have Poly for 289 a night in Feb. But thats because its value season and the AAA rate.
