I've always stayed at the moderate resorts. However, we're planning a trip with another family in June 2009 and we've all agreed that staying at a deluxe resort close to the parks would be ideal for our families. BUT, there's that huge cost.

Help! Someone give me some tips on how to save $$ in these areas. Specifically the Poly. We'll probably do the dining plan again, unless they change it yet again for 2009.

Polynesian cheaply...I don't see that happening any time soon. I hope for your sake (and mine!) that it gets discounted, but I think it is about the last resort they need to offer discounts on. It is very popular.

As Buzz said, AKL and WL are usually the cheapest "deluxe" resorts. If you need Disney transportation to the Magic Kingdom, the WL has a boat to get you there.

Good luck!!

Ditto...if you want to do deluxe cheaply your only "hopes" are really WL or AKL. We recently priced all the Deluxes and these two were the least expensive.

I do not think that GF or Poly discount too often! You have abetter chance with the normal prices of WL AKL or even Contemporary...their starting rates are much less expensive...AND then hope for a code on top of that!!!!! Good luck!

Oh, snap! I forgot that. I never think of the Swan/Dolphin as Disney hotels. I dunno why.

But you can't do the dining plan or magical express when you stay at S/D. And if you have a car, add another $8 per day for parking.

I really want to stay at a deluxe too! But with a family of five WL and AKL don't really work either. You have to get a suite (NOT cheap) or two rooms. The best bet I've found is CR wing. It's still not cheap though!

OP-good luck to you!

You could rent points and stay at one of the Epcot DVC's. Not as convenient as the monorail resorts for MK, but great for Epcot and much cheaper than paying Disney directly.

I booked Garden wing of the Contemporary for my family of 5 for next August. It's value season and we got the AAA discount. I'm still on the fence about the meal plan.

But the convenience of being sooo close to the Magic Kingdom is worth it just this once.

????? AKL and WL will fit five in some of their rooms. done it many times.

Aren't those the deluxe rooms or five if one is in a pack and play?

As for the Poly and GF, discounts are available, usually Passholder and sometimes general code, it's just the rack rates are so high it may not seem discounted to some. In '05 our AP rate at the GF during Spring Break (peak) was around $300 a night. Right now I'm paying that at YC in January (value) with AAA discount and happy to pay it.

Yeah, but it ain't cheap.;)

WL you have to get the suite--which, last I checked, ran about $400/night during value season.

AK you need a deluxe room--about $360/night during value season.

The standard rooms at both AK and WL only fit four in a room, plus one "infant" (child under age 3)

Not a good option if you're on a budget like us--which is why we will never stay there.

Heck, no!!! I've booked it with 3 teenaged girls. At AKL, it's called a DeLuxe Savannah, and consists of two queen beds and a daybed, or 1 queen, 1 bunk, and a daybed --they're slightly bigger than the regular savannah view rooms.

Yeah, but they're a lot more than standard rooms. Also, at WL they are extremely hard to get, plus I think they are all club level now too. I tried to switch to one of those for January from our standard room, or at least inquire about rates and was told they were all booked.

My best advice is to book a AAA rate if you're a member and hope for a nice special to be released or a code. Also, crunch numbers to see if an AP discount (if offered) might save you money in the end. There are several ways to mitigate the high cost of the Deluxe properties. We're a family of 5 and always stay in a Delxue resort and typically find the least expensive way to do so. It's easier than you might think. GOOD LUCK!!

We've stayed in those rooms before, too. But they have since been eliminated with the DVC makeover. :sad1: Families of 5, like mine, will now have to get two rooms or book DVC rooms at AKL.

At WL no rooms other than their Deluxe rooms (aka Jr. Suites) are an option for 5 people (and these rooms sleep 6) - they're super rooms, but crazy expensive.

I have the same dilemna as next year I will be taking my mom on our trip making that 5 in my party. I was looking at the family suites at All Star Music- they were the cheapest but I have heard that if a discount code comes out it won't apply to the suites at this resort. I am thinking Contemporary Resort as it will sleep 5 in one room. It is expensive though and I can feel your pain, especially if you want to add the dining plan, which is a must for us- my boys like to eat!!

Just an FYI

The Family Suites have been included in last few disconts codes--So keep watching.
