"I want my soup!" An October 2010 Trip Report UPDATED 7/9 2012 PTR STARTED!

Another great update! Hope you end up getting your soup at some point!!!

Have fun on your trip! We love the Sea World parks and have season passes for the one here. Hope you have a blast! :goodvibes

Have fun in Florida!! I'm super jealous, and I love your pictures of Beirgarten!!! The tiara picture is too cute, my mom made me do the same thing!

The pictures of all the signs and flowers for the Food and Wine Fest 15 years are great!!!But they make me sad lol I miss it all so much!

I can't wait to hear about your experience with the cheese soup, we had a little story of our own behind that, which I coincidentally just put up this morning prior to reading your updates lol

I'm behind and just getting some time to read and catch up.

But I saw your post about the lion...we actually did get really lucky last year and saw the male lion roaring. I think we might have a video of it at home, I'll have to check.

For now, here's a picture of him standing on the rock:

Sounds like a fun night!!! The pavillion at Epcot is actually the UK...not Englad. The UK covers many different countries, including Ireland. :goodvibes

Oh and we saw him up and scratching on one of the trees just like a housecat on your couch!!! I'm just not as organized as a lot of you are so I don't know where my picture is!!!

I love the display in front of the ball for the F&WF!

I really miss the old Figment ride.. I find the new one to be a little bit annoying but still go on it every time.

The Chinese version of Kris is great! ;) and girl, you work that tiara!!

So glad you guys liked Biergarten!!

You saw Sugar Ray!! I'm jealous! I loved them!

You need to tell your sister how funny she is! I absolutely love all of her pictures!

I hope you got that soup. Seriously. It wouldn't be a F&WF if you didn't..

AHHH!! THE BIG DAY!!! SO READY!!

While I anxiously await your HP post, have a great time at Sea World and Busch Gardens! We get back on the same day, so I'll be ready to read!! Can't wait!

I only went on the old Figment ride once and I don't really remember much about it, except the Dreamfinder guy. Haven't they changed it 2 or 3 times already since then?

I didn't actually get to see Sugar Ray but Kim and Adam did! On a side note, I keep wanting to type Sugary Ray. I have to keep backspacing on the y haha.

My sister is quite the comedian lol.

I had a great time on the fam. It was tiring though. I'm currently coming down with a cold :(

Thanks! Sea World was a blast. I've only been there twice and it was nice to see the other parks as well!

I miss it too!!! I can't wait to go back.

I'll have to go and read your cheddar cheese soup experience lol. That should be a new attraction for F&W next year. Cheddar Cheese Soup: The Experience.

I'm behind and just getting some time to read and catch up.

I need to see this lion in action. I refuse to believe he's there til I see him with my own eyes! lol

Thanks Meghan!

He seems to have one day each season where he's active. And the rest of the time, he's asleep!

All caught up! Im in!

Welcome!

Hi guys, I'm back! The fam was a lot of fun but very tiring. Our meeting times were usually around 8 am and we weren't getting back to the hotel until around 9 or 10 pm. They kept us busy! We hardly had any free time to ourselves, except for at night. I had a nice view of Epcot from my balcony so I got to see some of Illuminations. Snuck a little bit of Disney in there where I could get it ;) We went to Sea World, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, & Busch Gardens Tampa. I have now been to every major theme park in the Orlando area in the month of October. CRAZY! I'll have an upate soon. I caught a cold the last night I was there and am not feeling 100% at the moment. Plus, I had to work this morning after flying home yesterday. Let me get rested up a little bit and I'll have an update within a couple days :)

Glad to see you back! I hope you're able to get a bit of rest over the next few days and start to feel better.

Thanks! I have plans to go to dinner with my friends tonight and I was thinking about cancelling so I can rest. But it was my idea before I left for the fam so I'd feel like a jerk if I did that. I don't have work until 10 tomorrow though so at least I can sleep in a little!

Glad to hear you had a good time!! It's absolutely crazy you've hit all the major theme parks in one month! Bragging rights! ;)

Sorry to hear about the cold-- we just got back from Disney and we both picked up colds too--go rest! Looking forward to the update soon!

It's been a whirlwind of theme parks!

I'll probably have the update up by Wednesday night at the absolute latest.

How was your trip??

That's crazy the FW closes when EMH is going on! I hope you do get your soup at some point!!

I'm back!

I was just writing this and google chrome can be a little jerk sometimes and my whole post got erased! Luckily, I was only about halfway through but still. ANNOYING!

Anyway, I left off with the end of Day 3, Epcot Day. We got back to Pop Century at a normal time for once and got plenty of rest. We needed it because today was....

WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER DAY!

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan so I was super excited about this day. So was my sister. The boys...not really. They were excited to go to Universal but they could care less about Harry Potter. Whatever dudes.

We left Pop Century around 8:30 and were pulling into the Universal parking garage around 9. Jaws, Level 1.

We made our way over to Islands of Adventure and had to get our tickets. I had managed to get Kris and I free tickets (oh the perks of being a TA!) so we headed over to guest services to pick them up. Everybody else went to the regular ticketing line. We also got our Halloween Horror Nights tickets for the Stay & Scream price even though we had comp tickets. Score!

Finally, we were through the gates and we turned right toward Dr. Seuss. A couple of photo ops on the way through.

SAM_0191.jpg

Then we hightailed it through the Lost Continent...

SAM_0192.jpg

And finally, FINALLY we saw this!

SAM_0194.jpg

I was literally jumping up and down. My mouth was hanging open. I had been waiting months, no years, since this was announced and I was finally there! I am a Disney freak but....Disney has nothing that compares to WWoHP. The theming is spectacular and I don't even know how to describe the ride's awesomeness. I was awestruck by everything there. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Hogwart's Express

SAM_0196.jpg

Hogsmeade

SAM_0198.jpg

Ollivanders. We didn't get to see the show because the line was long all day and we had other things we wanted to do.

SAM_0200.jpg

SQUEE!!!!

SAM_0201.jpg

We headed straight for the Forbidden Journey entrance. Oh hello Hogwarts student, can we get a picture please? I love that they welcome you to their school!

SAM_0203.jpg

The line was 60 minutes but moved quickly. You're never standing still for too long plus there is so much to look at, you don't even realize how long you've been in line. It's like when you wait in line for TSM (or so I thought but that's another story...) First, you walk into the castle and see a few things from the books/movies like...

The Mirror of Erised

SAM_0205.jpg

Since Snape is a favorite of mine

SAM_0206.jpg

Then you make your way outside to the greenhouses. Professor Sprout, where are you? There's not much to look at here but the queue moves quickly.

You can tell this ride is going to be intense. Look at all those warnings!

SAM_0207.jpg

Of course we had to take a self pic...

SAM_0208.jpg

SAM_0209.jpg

SAM_0210.jpg

Then you make your way back into the castle. This is where all the really cool stuff is! The talking portraits, Dumbledore, the Sorting Hat, and of course Ron, Harry, and Hermione! Among other things...

Godric Gryffindor

SAM_0213.jpg

50 points to Gryffindor! They're in the lead!

SAM_0214.jpg

Salazar Slytherin

SAM_0215.jpg

The Room of Requirement

SAM_0217.jpg

The portraits were tough to take pictures of...same goes for Dumbledore and Harry & friends since they're holograms. They don't show up well on camera!

Portrait Hall

SAM_0219.jpg

Dumbledore's office. I don't know if you can see him but he's there, very faintly, in the balcony above his chair.

SAM_0221.jpg

Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Very, very faint. You meet up with them in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, where they tell you they want to take you to a quidditch match instead of Professor Binn's lecture!

SAM_0223.jpg

SAM_0224.jpg

Once you're out of that room, there are more portraits, most notably the Fat Lady. She's hysterical, babbling on about quidditch and yelling GO GRYFFINDOR! And asking you what you're staring at! Sadly, I couldn't get a picture of her. As we walked past her, I saw the Sorting Hat and from reading about the ride, I knew it was time to board!

SAM_0228.jpg

The ride you guys...wow. I don't even know how to describe it. It's a bench, more or less, that seats four across with a harness for each person. It's on a non-stop beltway, similar to Haunted Mansion and Finding Nemo. You climb in and as your heading into the ride itself, Hermione appears and casts a charm on you so that the benches fly. That's when you're lifted off that belt and your legs are dangling. And wow. It's half simulator, half dark ride. It turns and flips you every which way. It's an intense and crazy ride but a LOT of fun and like nothing I've ever been on before. I kept yelling out character names when I saw them and screaming the spell to chase the Dementors away, that's how into it I was. And it moves seamlessly. One minute, you're watching Harry & Ron on a screen and the next, you're in the middle of a set. It was SPECTACULAR. Everyone agreed, hands down, that was the best ride of the trip. I encourage you all to go and experience it for yourself. It's worth it. Wow. The best way I can think to compare it with a Disney ride is Soarin meets Dinosaur.

After the awesomeness of Forbidden Journey, we went on something a little more tame. Flight of the Hippogriff which is a family coaster aka a kids coaster. I had to see Hagrid's hut! Plus, the line was very short!

SAM_0231.jpg

Flight of the Hippogrif is cute. Hagrid is giving you instructions on how to properly interact with the creature and before you go up the hill, there's an animatronic Hippogrif that bows at you. You're supposed to bow back. I think I was the only one that did because I'm the only one who's read the books! I wish I had taken a picture of it but I didn't!

I had promised Kris a ride on Jurassic Park next so we headed out to explore the rest of the park. Would we return to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

Stay tuned for the rest of Islands of Adventure...

I've heard nothing but AMAZING things about WWoHP and FJ! Can't wait to go-- I still can't understand exactly how the seating works, but I guess I'll be pleasantly surprised! Can't wait to hear how you enjoyed the rest of the day!

Hey Jen!

Tomorrow is our last day here in WDW and I'm just doing some packing and catching up on some TRs!

Just read your last few chapters so I'm all caught up! I'm glad you guys had a good time at WWoHP! All I keep hearing is negative feedback about it! Everyone loves the Forbidden Jorney, but they just keep talking about how crowded and cramped it is. I'm happy you guys were able to see the positive side! We'll wait a couple of years before we go...we've never been to Universal at all so we'll plan a couple of days just for those parks.

Oh, and I haven't read all the commentary in between your updates so in case no one has mentioned this...Northern Ireland is part of the United Kindom so that is why they sell U2 t-shirts in the gift shop at Epcot! :rotfl2: My BF asked the same question when we were in there the other day!

Also - that beer cap hat that your sister tried on....we took a similar pic! Did you see the one with the drunk chicken? Hahahaha! :lmao:

You'd better return, because I see absolutely nothing in your entry about getting Butterbeer! We got it twice. I need to find a recipe to make it at home, oh man. I'm going to start drooling if I think about it too much.
