I want apps - but I'm cheap :teeth:

I don't 'need' a phone, but if a cell phone with a plan (and, sigh, a contract) is cheaper than an Itouch, I'll consider it.

If an Itouch is cheaper - and I might use it for videos/tv shows, even books, but I don't need the musid - I'll go that route.

If there's another device like the touch, i.e. not a phone but less expensive, that gives me access to apps, I'm all ears.

So - am I living in a dream world? If my 'best' deal is a phone - which one? I have a Tracfone for calls, and I'm perfectly satisfied with that.

It depends on the apps you want to use and where you want to access them. The iTouch apps that need an internet connection will only work when on a wifi network.

Here is the route that I took -

I wanted an all in one device so I purchased unlocked & w/o a contract a Google Nexus One phone. I could still use my prepaid Tmobile minutes for phone time, and I could use apps when in connected to a wifi network. I then went to the Tmobile Even More Plus plan (these are postpaid, but with NO CONTRACT), and got 500 min talk, plus unlimted Text & Web for $60 / mo. Not super cheap, but it was the best way to go to get access to apps all the time. (Things like Google Maps for a GPS system, and many shopping and coupon apps, even facebook, email, etc)

I have to say that I love the phone. I find out new ways to use it everyday! The phone itself was not cheap, but it is unsubsidized which means no contract. If you look at the Tmobile plan that they make you buy if you buy the phone subsidized, it costs $20 more per month for the exact same plan.

Just so you know, if you decide to go with a device that is not made by Apple, you can not get the apps from the itunes store. There are 2 other app markets - the Android and the Windows markets. The android market is the one that I use and it has I think something like 20,000 plus apps with new ones added every day. The device you get will determine what app market you will use.
