we used to have one in the basement growing up every year. We are having a Christmas party the 13th and I REALLY want to get one. I can't order from the online stores such as Christmasdepot.com because it wouldn't make it in time. Only if I would have ordered it a couple weeks ago when I first thought of it!!!! They had them in stock....then were sold out last week. I checked everyday and today they have 1 in stock but it would never make it here by next week.

I haven't even been shopping yet:eek:  .....just wondering if anyone has happened to see one at any stores that I may have in my area.......My mom just threw hers out a couple years ago but still has the color wheel..........

Any suggestions?????

Thanks

A friend of mine got two of them from ebay a couple of years ago. He paid around $80 a piece. One of them still turns and plays music. Good luck:)

My grandma had one of those, I LOVED IT!

Well, its not exactly aluminum, but the same color and style.. but Lowe's had one that "reminds me " of it. I was eyeing it up.. it did have a color wheel.

Personally I would love one too...

OMG. My mother was just talking about one of these on Thanksgiving. She loved it. I thought she was just weird. Maybe I will have to check ebay also.

We have one. A six-footer. It's our second tree. We put it up in the family room every year.

It's an old one though. We found it at an antique store several years ago (during the summer) and got a really good bargain on it. You might check antique malls, but they're probably marked up because of the season.

It's the color wheels that are expensive. Maybe now they're making reproductions, but a few years ago you could only find the old ones from the 60's.

I don't know if they have exactly what you are looking for, but Target had all kinds of funky trees when I was there last week!

OMG, that was our Christmas Tree for years. I remember putting the thing up and you had to take the branches out of the sleeves. After it was all done we'd stand back and admire it  ..... We never had a real tree growing up, I think that's why I like them so much!

Thanks everyone......I looked at Ebay but they were quite pricey and the looks of them weren't too wonderful. I will check out target and some other stores I guess.

My DH doesn't understand why I want this......he never saw one "in action"......and is a nice thing to remember my childhood growing up with it in my moms basement.

The best looking one is the one I found on Christmas depot online site....but it would never make it in time

I guess I will do some calling from work.

Thanks
Lisa

Lisa,

We had one of those growing up!! Such nostalgia! I just recently saw them selling at an online store for $$$.

HEre's the link:

Hammacher Schlemmer

It's funny, I show that to people and they think it's the strangest thing they've ever seen. But I love those trees too.

My grandparents had one of those, since we lived less than a block away, my sisters and I would help decorate it every year, I remember sitting for hours as a small boy just staring at the magic tree that changed colors...

when my grandparents passed away, the family had a public auction with the things that the sons and daughters didn't want,,I went to the auction determined to get that old tree and color wheel no matter what it cost, I got it for 10 bucks..

now I get to keep the childhood memories as vivid as ever...

good luck in your search....

I know in my area I've seen several at local antique stores.......

They had both silver tree and color wheel in, of allplaces, the Sky Mall catalog on our flight home last week.
Here you go: http://www.skymall.com just search for christmas tree.

MY but the tree is expensive.. well, at least you know they're out there!

WOW!!! Those sites were expensive!!!! The one at Christmasdepot online was 179.95 for a 7 ft tree AND the color wheel.....Man, I wish I would have bought it when I first saw it!!!!!!

I AM determined to find one though....I will let you know....

Lisa

I still have GREAT memories of these trees, also, Lisa! We had one for YEARS!

I sure wish we kept it, they are a fortune, now.

Wow, wdwoldtimer, those are the most affordable I've ever seen! Great site!

I have my mother's pompom silver tree and it's up right now in between a 4' and a 6 1/2' green artificial trees. I don't have the original color wheel. It seems to have disappeared but I did find a new wheel two years ago. I didn't put it up last year but my DD insisted on putting it up this year. We get some interesting comments from people who have never seen one.

Who would have ever thought those would become so expensive.

EXACTLY!!

We had one of those too. I think my parents got it with Green Stamps (remember THOSE???)

Ahh...good ol S&H Greenstamps....I loved looking at the catalog. Almost as good as the annual Sears toy catalog.

OK....I found one.....online....but it is a "slimline" tree. Not sure how "retro" it would look. What do you all think???? It is not a bad price...95 for the tree....7 1/2 foot.....and the color wheel is, I think 40???

The tree at christmasdepot was 54 inch diameter...and this one is only 38 diameter....and it will be here by next Friday!!!!

I haven't ordered it yet.....would like opinions though......should I order it??? I just don't know about it being "slimline"

thanks
Lisa
