I have been itching to plan our 25th wedding anniversary trip. As some of you may know my wonderful, bestest, greatest husband said he wanted to go to Disney with me to watch my enjoyment. The short plane trip to DL was appealing to him.

But January prices aren't out for DL yet, and there are so many closures in the off season that I started pricing out a trip to WDW...and let me tell you I really want to go there instead....and what does James think of this idea? He said yes of course!

He didn't even flinch when I looked at prices for the Contemporary...( I know it's a tacky place but my little girl self thinks it's the epitome of Disney).

Heaven help us!:lmao:

Well, we just made the leap up to the CR. While I have never really wanted to stay there, we are staying there. We did not go for a tower room. Corey was not really happy to learn that there were rooms outside of the tower, but she found that out today, since that is what we booked. lol But, you know, I am totally ok with being out in the outside Garden Wing part of the resort.

The rooms look really nice after the rehab. Have you looked at the new room decor? They have flat screen tv's, free internet on a working computer in all of the rooms, and it's really quite modern looking. Oh, and I hear that they have real coffee, not the nasty Nescafe stuff at the Contemporary Grounds Coffee Bar in the lobby! I know you love your coffee. ;) Now, if they will just finish building that new CS restaurant, Chef Mickey's Express, we will be all set for a great vacation!

Congrats on gently twisting James' arm and getting the nod to go to WDW! :woohoo:

No fair, I want to go to WDW too :sad1: Congrats Rosie, I'm sure you will have a great time!

Congrats Rosie, 25 years.. awesome

I have stayed at the Contemporary, and people love the Tower, I have not stayed there. I have stayed in the wings where I understand lots of construction is going on (making a DVC property).. so make sure you check out that first..

What about the Grand Floridian for your 25th?? I like it there, my fave resort though is the Yacht and Beach Club now in my adult years. and my daughters' little girl favorite resort is the Polynesian.......they love it there, reminds them of their childhood.

Yes Rosie 25 years is a long time. Maybe what would make James really happy is to have some James time! So here's an idea, how about you take me to WDW, and we'll take lots of pictures for James, and he can stay at home and watch tv all day !!

ok Rob..I'll put the idea of takng you instead to James, but somehow I don't think he'll go for it. Now if you said..leave me home and the two of you go have fun...then you might have had a chance.

While I'd love to stay at the Contemporary..I just can't bring myself to justify the cost...even for a 25th Anniversary. Ditto for the GF. I am, however, looking into the AKL. I've never stayed at a Deluxe so maybe that'll be my compromise. I'm still checking prices and will call AAA tomorrow to see what they can do.

Thanks everyone...I'm so excited I spent all day yesterday on the computer!

Well they're not overly bright - they use a deep earthy tones
inspired by Africa - the whole place is gorgeous.

But anyway - I'd think dark lighting would be better for you -
if you know what I'm saying. :rolleyes1

I am not Rob

Keep your gays straight :snooty:

Eeeek! Pardon moi! I've been away too long.

Yeah, I know what you're saying (Wise ****)...but what's gonna help with the smell???

The Poly's and Contemporary's rooms tend to be dark too. (Maybe it's a Deluxe Resort thing.) It sounds weird, but I'm very sensitive to the way light comes in a room/apartment...etc. (It can be a huge deal breaker when looking for a a new apartment.)

Here's a general rule I've found to be true about WDW rooms: If the exterior of the hotel is brown and/or dark, you can pretty much bet the rooms will be dark. If it's white or lighter and colorful, the rooms will be brighter and cheerier.

I know it sounds like common sense, but most people just don't think about things like that too often. ;)

I have migraines, so I usually prefer a darker room. I can't stand intense florescent lighting. I almost always come home from the grocery store with a headache due to the lighting in the produce and cooler sections.

I loved the Poly because it was dark, calm, and very much helped to relax me at the end of the long day. I am hoping that the Contemporary will also be as comforting.

I still would love to stay at AKL. I have hopes of staying there in 2010.

Maybe a strategically placed Stickup?
Industrial pine scent.
:rotfl:

AKL room are darker than some, but if you open the drapes during the day, it is not an issue. They do not have GLARINGLY bright reading lights over the beds, nor do they have high wattage bulbs in the bathroom. At least the last time I was there in 2004, the bathrooms were kinda dull. Which is OK until you decide that not looking like a schlub at the CG is in everyone's best interest and you can't see well enough to know how the make up looks (ladies, you guys look fine sanS Loreal). Just waking into the lobby is very calming to me.

Congrats on 25. I wish I could convince my husband to go again for any reason, but he hates it.

Also.. just an FYI...Wilderness Lodge has dark rooms as well, but it is on the MK side and a bus ride away from that happiness..

You pay for that Monorail privilege dearly......I like being on the Boardwalk side and walking into Epcot whenever I darn well feel like it..

Let us know what you decide.. I have never stayed at AKL, but have eaten at both Boma and Jiko.......just too far out for me.. I like the walking into Epcot thing too much to stay out there, but people do love it..

Still waiting for AAA to call me back...meanwhile..let's talk about ME for a change.....

not Louie (aka Rob)
and definitely not Wally..

Okay let's talk about YOU. :)

Don't YOU think I look fabu today? :rotfl:

I'll get the iron out of the closet. Out of the way Tom Cruise.
