We finally took the plunge and took the family to WDW in May. We had a FANTASTIC time :cool1: and what we thought was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip quickly turned into "when are we coming back?". Well...this is why I'm posting.....I wanna go back now! We can't go back until May of 2009 and we are definitely planning to do that, but that seems so far away! There isn't a week that goes by that one of my kids doesn't ask about going back. And I'm just as bad if not worse! I read these boards every day :surfweb: and hope that 2 years will fly by! Anybody in the same boat? I know in my head that it would not be financially wise to go back before 2009, but am I gonna make it?! Any suggestions for making the wait any easier? Am I a nut for thinking about it all the time?! I knew if anyone had the answers it would be you guys!

I am the same way! We go nearly every year now, but it was after our trip when my daughter was about 3 years old or so that we decided we had to find a way to make it happen every year if at all possible. That trip was just so amazing, my daughter is now 10 and on the years that our budget is especially tight, I find ways to cut the price way back. We can do Disney and splurge, but we're also good at doing Disney on a strict budget. For instance, while it's preferable to stay on property for a lot of people, staying off site can literally save hundreds of $$$'s. As an example, last year we stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort, but if we had stayed off property, we would have saved approximately $500 for the week. Also, you can eat cheaply, it is possible, LOL!! I know it's hard to imagine, but by picking up a box of doughnuts for your hotel room and shipping a case of bottled water ahead of time, you can save a bunch!

There are ways to go and not break the bank, it takes research and time, but hey! We're Dis'ers, we love looking this stuff up! LOL!!!

:thumbsup2

As many of the people I know would say, "Why do you want to go back? You've already been there!" ;)

We had the same plan as you, by the way. But after our first trip last December, we couldn't imagine not going back again and again. So we have one planned for this December, and then we bought into DVC so we could go every year for the next 35! Oh, and we plan to go to Disneyland Resort for the first time in 20 years next June. :thumbsup2

There's not a day that goes by that we wouldn't rather be at Disney...

We went November 2002 for a one off trip of a lifetime, for 3 weeks costing us £8000, figuring it was gonna be the only time we went. We did absolutely everything including swimming with dolphins in Discovery Cove. You get bitten by the Disney bug though & once you've been no where else in the world compares, so we saved & dreamt & finally were able to go again  this year. So we have booked 3 weeks over Christmas & the New Year, swapping Discovery Cove for a Christmas Day balloon flight :santa:

OMG we sooooooo can't wait it's been 5 looong years, hang onto your dreams those 2 years will soon pass pixiedust:

So glad to see another person with a long wait!!! We were there in Feb. and I was already figuring out a way to get back while on the plane ride home. We were originally going to go back Nov 08 but have pushed back to Jan 09 so we could save a little more. We figure if we get down every two years we are doing good. But yes the wait is killing me!! My BIL and I are the "planners" and already have a spreadsheet going of where we want to make ADRs. We are going to drive the rest of them crazy!!! I try to look back 15 months and how fast that has gone and that helps me put it in perspective, a little! I keep hoping for the winning lottery ticket so I can purchase a house down there :rotfl: At least you are not alone!

Gillettes,

Where are you from in Michigan? We are in Livonia. If you can possibly afford it in Nov/early December vs. January, you should really try. We have always gone end of Nov, first of December (last year over Thanksgiving) and in 2005 we went in October. There is NOTHING like WDW decorated for the holidays!!! I found it very plain in October, even with the Halloween decorations. Again, NOTHING like Disney for the Christmas holidays.

Have fun planning (that IS 90% of the fun!).

That sounds like fun....I'll watch for you. I'll be the one jumping up and down and waving my LGMH at you. :jumping1:

Goofyboyzmom,

Hiya neighbor (well close enough). We live in Dearborn, Michigan and Telegraph area. We may still make it in 08, dh works for Ford as a tradesman so I guess we will see what their contract looks like and how business does. Right now he is working 6 days a week and if that continues it may be a possibility. Do you know when in Nov. they put up the decorations? We would have to go mid Nov. My BIL is a financial analyst and can't go at the end of a month because of it. The decorations would be nice to see! Thank god we have a while before we have to decide.

If I see a dot that appears to be jumping up & down waving frantically, I'll be sure to wave back. Hope you have a wicked time too :goodvibes

I grew up in Dearborn! Graduated from Fordson! To see the most decorations, go in the late teens of November if not over Thanksgiving. More go up every day but my sister got there last year on the 17th and they were mostly up. And if you do, try to get the the Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party or MVMCP. It is really special. It is an additional cost, but do without something else to do this. Special parade, snow on Main Street, Christmas shows, cocoa and cookies, special fireworks, etc. We go each time we go. Any other questions, I will be happy to help with.

Oh I hear you!!! We just got back in September from our first trip and I am officially Dis-obsessed! We aren't planning an actual trip back until 2011 but I'm entering contests every night to try and win won sooner. I have a file on my computer labeled "Future Itinerary"! I'm already budgeting for meals......I want to go back so bad I can taste it! It truely is a sickness........

DW Was very concerned about the cost of our first trip. Then we had such a magical time, that we returned the next year! And said we cannot return next year. Fortunately for us we won a free trip for our third year. We decided that that after three years in a row we were going to take a break. We bought into the DVC about three months after our third visit and the rest is history. You really cannot subside the desire to "Go Back" no matter how hard you try.

We did the "once in a life time " trip as well in September, we started talking about going back on our second day there!! We are not going to be able to make it back till 2009, but not a week goes by that we don't look at it and talk about it some more. And I have to admit I am way worse then the kids on the wanting to go back scale!

We had our "once in a lifetime" trip this September. :thumbsup2 It was truly magical! When we left our home to head to Orlando we knew two things: 1.that we were extremely blessed to finally get to go to WDW and 2. That it would be a long time before we could return. Well... we are coming back September 2008! :woohoo: We got the chance to bounceback with the free dining again and we are doing it! The only downside :upsidedow is that it is so loooooooong to wait!

We're still here in Disney and leaving in a few hours to make the long drive back to Jersey. We already have plans to come again in March 2009. We bought into DVC last year and brought our son for his first trip last December when he was 14 months old. The plan at the time was to come in March 2008 to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday. We then found out that when we were planning to come was Easter and DH didn't want to do Disney at Easter. When we asked our son what he wanted for his birthday the only thing he asked for was to kiss Mou Mou (Mickey) so we moved the vacation up to this October and celebrated his 2nd birthday here in Disney. He of course had a blast and we have tons of pictures so he can remember his 2nd birthday in Disney. So now the plan is March 2009 for our anniversary and my birthday and then most likely a big family vacation in 2010 with DH's family...the plan being a Disney cruise and then a few days here to enjoy the parks too. I'm already planning the 2009 trip and driving DH nuts of course. He just keeps telling me to let him recover physically and financially from this one before I make him too nuts with the next one.:rotfl2: DS is already telling him "daddy...again again!" and we haven't even left for home yet. Wonder where he gets that from.:rolleyes1

Being hooked on Disney, there is no cure.;)

I'm with you on this one too, I feel your pain!

BUT, after our family 'once in a lifetime' trip (which turned into 2 further trips after that one! :lmao: ) 10 years ago, I'm now longing to return and very luckily for me, my DBF has made that dream come true and we're heading there in April next year!! :cloud9:

I'm enjoying my planning and researching period though, but, loving that ticker at the bottom of my sig, which is tick-tocking away each day :thumbsup2

I'm glad I am not the only one in the same boat here! Makes me feel a little better about not being able to return for a while. Not sure when our family will get back because I am trying to get back into school to get my teaching certificate. If that happens, all our money will be going for that. No long vacations for a few years. The good news is that my DH told me that if I get though school, we could plan a Disney cruise! That is a big incentive for me, so I am going to take his word on it(or maybe get it in writing!!!:rotfl2: ). I am always looking for ways to get back to Disney, so maybe if I good deal comes up next year, then maybe I can take advantage of it!!! Only time will tell!:goodvibes

We go at least 3 times each year now. Going first week in Dec. Got to see all the decorations at all the parks and resorts.
