I have been trying to stay on plan, but for whatever reason, holiday, stress, sinuses, cold, you name it, I have been tempted to go off and have a carb fest.

Any words of wisdom that can help me stay focused?

Thank you,

Laura

I read a post here a while back (I'm sorry I don't remember who posted it!)

But I think about this quote whenever I feel like cheating:

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

I use Trident sugarless gum when the Munchie Monster is chasing me! It keeps my mouth busy. Also the mint taste makes my mouth feel like I've brushed my teeth, and NO food tastes good after you've just brushed....LOL!!:p

Please hang in there Laura. Ride it out, the feeling will pass, I'm sure. Think of all the progress you have made! I like that quote above about how nothing tastes as good as thin feels. I am far from thin but nothing could taste as good as I feel today in my A-line skirt that was so tight I couldn't even wear it a few weeks ago. Think of all the progress you have made so far. 30 pounds - that's awesome!!! You don't want to mess that up, do you? Not to mention how bad you'll feel afterwards. I read a quote once that said it is easier to stay on the wagon than to fall off and get back up on it again.

I also carry a picture of me at my heaviest standing in front of the partner statute at MK. Whenever I start to feel my resolve going, I look at that picture and remember where I was just a few short weeks ago. Out of control and feeling lousy. That is what all those bad carbs will do to and for you. You already know what candy, ice cream, mash potatoes, rice and such taste like right? Those things will still be around once you reach your goal.

I also read something interesting from a guy on the lowcarbfriends site and he said that he had done well with Atkins and lost a ton of weight but then he started to get lax and cheat. His cheats led to a binge that lasted quite a bit of time. He said he kept telling himself he would get it together when things were easier (holidays over, etc.). I like what he said next, he said, it never gets easier. If we are waiting for things to get easier on us to loss the weight, we never will. Since it's never going to get easier, let's do this thing together. Okay?

I'm into weighing and measuring now...so please be patient with me:

Nuts - Fill little ziplock bags with 1 oz. portions of macadamias, almonds, walnuts or your favorite nut. Each is about 4 gm carbs - so don't overindulge. They do take the edge off the craving for cookies - especially the macadamias.

Sugar-free chocolate - Costco now sells a Hersey's mix - they count in your total carbs too, try to have just one when you really need it (or face a little tummy distress!)

Real chocolate - one real Hersey's kiss is about 2 carbs - one miniature is about 4 carbs (make sure you can ONLY EAT JUST ONE).

Holiday parties and family get-togethers: Ask what you can bring and make it delicious SAFE food - then you always know that you have at least one item that you can have without worry.

Hang in there through the sinus - cold - stress - holidays. We're all there with you.

Thank you for all your support. I am going to the kitchen now......

to make myself a huge glass of water and a piece of gum!

I'm going to fight my cravings, so I can once here "move over skinny."

Thanks,

Laura:p

Hi Laurajean1014,

Remember, nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

Lisatx posted that quote to me when in my original thread I stated that I would need help with self-control during the holidays.

It has not been easy and I did have some cheating days and I cheated with things I really could have done without.:(

Today is my DH's birthday and I bought a cake to celebrate.
My DSand DD raved about the cake and it did look good, however, I kept saying to myself :Remember, nothing tastes as good as thin feels. This time I did not cheat. I ate a couple of squares of my low carb chocolate bar, drank some water and I was satisfied.

Good Luck and Remember,
nothing tastes as good as thin feels. ::yes::

To Lisatx thank you for your help.

I'm very happy if it helps, but I can't take credit for originating that quote. I don't remember where I read it first. I'm just passing it along. :)

Laurajean- it's fun to be BAD sometimes!!!

But can you find a way to be bad that doesn't mean food? Maybe spoil yourself in some little way? Buy yourself a small but extravagant splurge item, maybe? (A wild nail polish color, a crazy scarf, a sparkly piece of costume jewelry, a manicure or a massage? Or maybe just taking TIME for yourself that you normally wouldn't- locking yourself in your room for an afternoon nap instead of running around like Supermom can feel incredibly decadent now and then!)

It's a challenge, but learning to "treat" ourselves in non-food ways can make us feel really good. :sunny:

Okay, Christmas is nearly 3/4 over and I have been doing quite well today. I gave into a few temptations, but ate much much less than dinners of Christmas past.

I think I will weigh in the same tomorrow, so the day is a success. This year my family received not one piece of candy!

Yeah, we'll all get skinny and keep our teeth! That should make the next WDW or DCL pictures look good! :teeth:
