ETA: Thanks moderators, for moving this from Theme Parks to Community Boards!!! Now I've insulted hundreds of people right to their faces! Just kidding, ly/mi.
********************************************

yikes! The first thread I went to was a knock-out, drag-down fight about the Episcopal Church and gay rights. The next was about a 6 year old boy who fell from a ferris wheel and died.

I don't know about you, but I come on these boards to escape the real world. I get enough of the real world in my real life - here I want to dream, plan, obess, read, and fantasize about Disney!!!

Soooooo, let's talk Disney!

I'm going in December and am so excited about hitting all the holiday themed events. Christmas is very precious to me - I can't wait for the Candlelight Proc., MVMCP, and Osborne Lights. Any words of wisdom or juicey pieces of advice from December veterans? Any little known events that I should hit?

Thanks and I'm so glad to be back in the trip planning forums!!!

Yikes! Sounds like you found a couple of scary threads. I totally agree with you on using the boards to "escape the real world," even if for a few minutes.

Unfourtunatly I have no advice for holiday happenings. I've never been at the World during that time. I have heard that it is AMAZING. Hopefully I'll make it in a few years.

The CB isn't what it USED to be. :sad2: Glad you could "escape" and come over here, its pleasant here....so far..... ;)

nodding head yes!

For the longest time I never went there until one of my posts got booted over there. Now I enjoy it. You just have to stay away from the "hot topics" and ignore the people who are only there to stir the pot. The exchanges are fun and I got a lot of support when I got my tooth pulled.

Holiday time is my favorite time to visit WDW! Be sure to spend some time looking at the Christmas decorations at the resorts - especially Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Floridian. If possible, try to view the Osborne Lights on a weeknight rather than a weekend, when the "streets" are much more crowded.

We were at WDW last Christmas and it was wonderful! All the things you mentioned are great! We also spent some time touring the resorts to see the decorations. We stayed at WL so one day we rode the boat to MK and then took the mono-rail all around the loop. We got off at The Cont, Poly, and GF just to look around. GF was the most crowded and the most gorgeous! Then another night we ate at the clambake at BC and walked around to see YC and BW. So, we saw every deluxe decorated except AKL. It was great fun and really got us in the spirit. If you have time I recommend it. We do not do commmando touring, so we made it a priority to see all of the special holiday things on that trip as opposed to riding every ride and seeing every show. We did CP, MVMCP, OSL, and saw all of the special parades! Enjoy :santa: .

The Community Boards is like a different world. I went there once but will never go back!!

I went to the Dark Side only once :teeth: -- just to go to the freebies thread and send for some samples. But there is too much going on here at the DIS Theme Parks thread for me to spend time over there.

Unfortunately I believe that is where the tag fairy lives so I most likely will never have a colorful tag under my name!

Anyway, I keep hoping for a discount for a short trip I have planned in early November ... but may just make the reservations without one! I don't think lights will be up that early, but Christmas time at WDW will be awesome and I bet you will have loads of fun Punkins Mom!!!

What is a tag fairy?

Can't help with WDW Holiday stuff. But hoping to get to go a couple of nights closer to the holidays, I want to see the lights.

I mostly enjoy the CB. Just need to know what topics to get involved in and which to avoid posting in.

I too, like a pp stated, have gotten some sound advice and support over there. I get into more heated "conversations" on the planning boards, but not all topics.

December is my favorite time to go - hope you have a ball! I highly recommend the Candlelight Processional Dinner package, especially if you were going to eat at one of the Epcot restaurants anway. We like to go to the show first (usually the 6:45 show) and then eat afterwards (usually around 8), but a lot of folks eat first, show afterwards.

As someone said, try to see the Osborne Lights during the week - it is indeed much more crowded on the weekends.

One thing that we always get a kick out of is the World Showcase Players - at that time of year they usually do "A Christmas Carol". They are in England, in the street by the tea shop. Show lasts about 15 minutes - lots of laughs.

Ever since they shut down the debate board other boards have gotten some of that 'debate' overflow. The CB is usually a pretty funny board though. They have some hilarious people.

Candlelight is GORGEOUS! Phylicia Rashad was reading when I got to see it and her voice . . . oh, so perfect with the singing and it brought tears to my eyes.

My Christmas tip, if you go to MVMCP, don't EXPECT to go on rides (it was packed when we did it) and plan on going for the atmosphere, it can't be missed. And also be sure to watch the dancing fountain at Epcot, all done to Christmas music. I don't know if they still do the lighted arch between FW and WC, but be sure to keep an eye on that too after dark!

And yeah, I moseyed to those boards once. *shakes head emphatically* I'm not here for that atmosphere.

Anyways, I agree, maybe the CB is to keep those darkhearts away from our boards! Who knows!

I didn't even think about weekend vs weekday and I've already scheduled our MGM day for Friday. Our ADRs are set and I don't want to try change those. I hope the lights aren't crazy on a Friday night. Maybe the MVMCP will draw people away.

I almost feel like we might have to chose between the lights and Fantasmic. I've read that although in the past the lights have stayed on after park closing, this year they might turn them off which would mean you'd have to pick one or another. Guess I'll just have to wait until November to find out what's going on.
