I used to be a Tide snob

About a month ago, I was running low on laundry detergent - didn't see any good deals for Tide, and Arm & Hammer liquid detergent was on sale. So I got that.

I now think it's better than Tide. I always wash white socks, tee shirts, and dishtowels in hot water with a some bleach, and I really think they're whiter now than they used to be.

I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was considerably cheaper than Tide. Even with sales lately, it seems like Tide has gotten very expensive. Has anyone else gotten away from Tide?

We did-and it cost more in prescriptions to get my rash cleared than we saved by not buying Tide. We usually get the medium box powder Tide for $5 when on sale. Kroger has it for $4.88 this week, with $1 off coupons on top of that. Spending $3.88 for a 4-6 week amount of detergent is nothing considering the alternative.

I use that as well. The one with the oxyclean in it. :thumbsup2
They have coupons on the site if you sign up :)

My neighbor got me hooked on Melaleuca cleaning products. I've been using their laundry detergent for years. It's environmentally friendly and does a great job. No problems with skin sensitivities either. A bottle costs about the same as a bottle of Tide, but it is much more concentrated and does about 1/3 more loads.

My parents swear by Tide because it's rated the best in consumer reports.

I myself can't stand it. It just doesn't match with my body chemistry or something. I always feel like I smell weird when I wear clothes washed in Tide.

I've used Purex for years and am pretty satisfied. My local grocery stores have it on sale quite often and so does Walgreens.

I've actually been using more Tide. There is always a $1 inside the box (actually part of the box you cut out), and at my Walmart the big powder box of 63 loads is $7.95, so get for $6.95 and that lasts at least 2 months, depending on how often DD19 is home (she does laundry at her friend's if she is away).

I just love the scent. My clothes just aren't right if they don't smell like Tide

I had gotten away from Tide and really liked the Arm and Hammer but then I bought the Tide sport for my DH b/c he runs and fell in love with it. It gets all the smell out his running clothes which I had not successfully done with any other detergent and I love the smell - so now we use it for everything!

Do you folks use the powder detergent for your darks too, or just your whites? I want to streamline my laundry shelf and having only one detergent would be great. I'm wondering about the outcome of using powder detergent without bleach on darks. Thanks!

If you are a Costco member the Kirkland brand is good.

I just bought Tide Sport the other day for my son's hockey gear and have been using it on everything. It smells good and really gets the odors out.

When I first read the thread starter I thought you were going to say that you were a tide snob but now you are yelling War Eagle.:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 yes!

I use Tide with Bleach powder or Regular Tide powder (depends on what is available or sale) on everything, in cold water. My darks have not faded and there is no residue.

I rinse twice though, so that might make a difference.

I use whatever Free and Clear detergent is cheapest. My old roomie in college swore by regular Tide but I can't use it. Haven't tried the Tide free/clear because it's so much more expensive than Purex/All/Sun, etc.

I use ECOS its all natural magnolia and lily it is from Sams or Costco huge jugs lasts 2 or 3 months depends i do tons of laundry only need half cap full its really good like its all natural good environment nice smell to .

It's funny how body chemistry comes into play with detergent, because I have the same reaction when I use tide. My dad, brother and sister are the same way too. I break out in a severe rash and get almost welt like bumps, it is really gross. I use method free and clear now and it is not exactly cheap ( $8.00 for 25 loads), but I really like it.

Funny - I just switched about 2 weeks ago! I was on another thread saying Tide was something I'm brand loyal to, and then thought, wait a minute! It's expensive!! And I'm a Budget Board girl!

I switched to All, so far so good...

I will say I'm keeping my Downy for now, I like the smell. I figure it won't matter what detergent I use, and long as I have a good softener? We'll see

Same with my DD12, whenever I try to use anything other than Tide, she gets a rash. Not worth it.

I got away from Tide several years ago. Not only was I trying to save $ but I saw on either 20/20 or 60 min about how more $ did not mean better cleaning that it had more to do with your washing machine. I switched to Purex at that time but now prefer Arm&hammer or Era. Like Era the best because it seems to do the best on kid stains and I love the smell.

Tide breaks me out ina horrible rash. I've tried both liquid and powder. I use Purex Linen and Lillies. It cleans really well and I love the smell. I also use Downy but cut it with white vinegar. It makes our clothes really soft and is budget friendly :goodvibes
