I used my DDE card yesterday...

at both Kona Cafe and The Plaza Restaurants. When I got the bill before presenting the card,I saw printed on it suggested tip @ 18% and 20%. When I got the bill back after presenting the card,there was no automatic gratuity added. I added the suggested 18%,which was smaller than the 20% discount on the food. At The Plaza,the tip was automatically added. The server in both instances got less than I would have given,because I normally just give back in a tip what the discount was. Also,I didn't realize this until after I was putting away my card outside The Plaza,but I had mistakenly taken my 2007 card from the drawer that I keep the Disney stuff in(note to self-put your Disney stuff in your wallet the night before,NOT at 6 in the morning!!),and I still got the discount!!

Maybe they took Kona as counter service? Maybe they are only going to do it at true table service (signature style) restaurants. Very interesting post!

Well, the Plaza is far from signature style dining, so that can't be it. I'm wondering if maybe the Kona computers had not been updated yet.

We did not have the automatic gratuity added to any of our meals over our Christmas visit.

Used DDE at Ohana, Le Cellier, Beaches and Cream, and California Grill.

On our bills during our Christmas visit, it showed the 18% & 20% tip amounts, but none was added to the bill. We at at Flying Fish, Citricos, LTT, Boma, Ohana's, WCC and Marakesh(sp?) and the suggested tip amounts was on all of the bills, but not ever added to it.

Just returned today, had breakfast at Chef Mickey's, Boma and dinner at Kona, and also drinks at Tambu lounge. The 18% was added on all our checks that we used DDE for.

It is a little deceptive, because the one copy that the server tells you is "their" copy for you to sign and leave, it only has the total, so you need to look at the check with the discount to see that the 18% was added.

My 11 year old son and I ate at Crystal Palace on Jan 4/08. The meal was up to $32.99 each. Our bill came to $70.00 with taxes. On the receipt the suggested tip was $11.88 @ 18% or 12.45 @ 20%.

Our waiter gave us a soda and one coffee. That is all. We served ourselves our meals. I absoultely thought it NUTS to tip almost $12 for a glass of soda and one coffee. I tipped $5! That too is good for deliverly of a pop and coffee.

This is a buffet restaurant and tips should reflect that....

I wish they had just done that across the board instead of automatically adding the tip to the bill.

We used the DDE 1/2 through 1/6 and the tip was not added twice - Both times at Outer Rim. The bartender did tell us each time that they did not add the tip. Biergarten, Ohana, Mama Melrose and Boma added the tip and did not tell us.

I believe the automatic service charge is only at sit-down locations. I do not believe lounges charge. I could be wrong.

We just got back from Askerhaus using the DDE and the tip was not included in the discounted amount. My son and wife had dinner at Jiko's last night and while the tip was added my son said the 18% was on the discounted and not full price.
