I think it was a pretty high-end shop. There was one that I really loved and then I asked for the price - It was from Jenny Packham (they had several of her dresses there) It was $2700!!!! Is this the average price for a dress? A few friends are going shopping with me in a few weeks - I think we are going to some different stores!

You can dresses a lot cheaper at David's Bridal and other shops. I fell in love w/ a dress at Macy's Bridal that was about the same price as the dress you mentioned. I was shocked too, but I loved the dress None of the others I had tried on compared. We were able to negotiate the price a bit so it wasn't quite as painful. I still paid a lot more than I would have liked but don't regret that decision. My dress was perfect on my wedding day

I think it depends on what store you go to, and what dress designer you are looking for. Unfortunately, most of the dresses that I saw were in the $2000 to $3000 price range. Mine ended up being even more! However, some stores have an average price range of $900 to $1000 or less! Look through some wedding magazines, call the dress shops ahead of time, and get an idea of what you are looking for before you get surprised in the store.

I have seen alot of them that price. I saw my Mary's Bridal dress in Brides Magazine. It listed for 1450.00 on the website. I went to our local bridal salon. They happened to have my dress in my size for 450.00 it was discontinued. I was so happy, plus I didn't even need any measurments. I love Mary's dresses. I would just keep looking. There are dresses in every price range.

I love Jenny Packaham, and have been pining after her "Claire" dress since day one. It's $2950 at a local store here in Toronto. I checked at Saks, and it was a bit less, and they'll take off 10% if you apply for their Saks card. I don't know if that helps much, but they do carry Jenny Packham.

You can sometimes find her dresses on ebay too, although I've really only had luck with the UK ebay - and the seller who had Claire (for half the price I'd pay at home) won't ship to Canada... so the search continues!

I say you are in a high-end store. I found mine for less than $600, current style, current year, etc...another disbride ordered one at another store, more elaborate than mine from the same line and hers was less than $500. Keep shopping around...you will definately be able to find one you like in a price you can afford. Think smaller towns, they are less likely to jack up the prices !

I would agree with the previous poster. Shop around and do your homework. You can find a dress that is similar in style to the one you like for less money. David's Bridal and DaVinci do less expensive versions of popular gowns like Maggie Sottero and others. You can also try Ebay. Julius Bridal will make a copy of any dress you send them. That might be risky though because you won't know about the quility or fit until you get it in the mail.

I would suggest shopping around. There will be a dress you put on and you will just know its "the one" In my case...I had three "the ones" My dress sticker price was 1500 but since it was discontinued and it would have to be THAT dress no ordering it I got mine for about 500. With that came the seamstress going over every tiny detail to make sure it had all beading ect.

Definitly look at several stores, and as we all know hoe tiring gown shopping is, I would try on several styles even ones you don't necessarily like, I found mine hated it on the hanger but the sales lady said...."Just humor me, and put it on." Once it was on and I walked out 3 of the 4 people I was with had jaw dropping syndrom (sp?)

Oh my thats a lot for a dress lol. But to some brides it IS worth it.

I would shop around. I shopped at some stores and liked a few $1000 dresses (that seems the average price) but actually found "THE ONE" online for $250!! Its a current style designer dress that sells in the stores for $950. I had to get it 1.5 sizes too big, but for that savings it was a deal! And when I got it in the mail and put it on I cried...I feel like 1Million bucks...but only paid $250!

So definately look around a bit first.

I didn't know anything about designers or buying dresses or anthing, but my first trip to a local shop revealed prices from $400 -$5000. I gave the sales lady a general idea of style of dress and I also gave her a price range. She pulled probably about 14 dresses in all for me and I tried them all on, but the first one, a Provnovias for $1800 marked down to $600 was "the one". I feel soooooo lucky to have found my dress so quickly, easily and cheaply!! Bought it off the rack and it needs just a few minor alterations and I have an excellent seamstress who is really inexpensive. WooHoo!

I would say pick a price range and a general idea of shape/style and then go from there. Any sales person worth their weight should be able to pick some dresses out for you that fit into your budget. They shouldn't pressure you or make you feel like you have to spend more either!

Dresses of all styles come in all price ranges, and really it comes down to how you feel in the dress. If you could afford a $1000 dress that you LOVE instead of a $200 dress that you are kinda "eh" about, the more expensive dress is a better deal, because you feel like a princess, and this is your day, however buying a $1000 dress because thats whats "in style" and passing up a cheaper dress that calls out to you, would be a disaster!! I personally tried on dresses ranging from $200-$2500, and I FELL IN LOVE with one for about $450 at Davids Bridal. So check out both high, middle and low end shops, you never know what you will come up with. Good luck, and whichever dress you choose, i'm sure you will make a beautiful bride!

I did a lot of research online and thought I found "the one" - which cost about $1,750. That seemed so high to me, but again, I thought it was the dress I was meant to have. I ended up going to the David's Bridal near me, and found a dress almost identical to the dress I fell in love with online for a mere $599!!!!! Needless to say, I purchased it on the spot.
