Is the generation 4, 8 gb have enough storage for an 8 year old to play games with??

Yup. My girls have a ton of games and music on their 8 gb. Got them last Christmas and still have a lot of room left. They don't keep games they downloaded and quit playing 10 months ago.

If you wan your child to be able to watch movies or have room for photos than no, an 8 gb is NOT big enough. I plan on getting my 10 year old the new Ipod touch for christmas with 32 gb. I hate having to move stuff off jus so she can have enough room.

It would be a much better investment to go with the 32 gb.

My youngest (currently 10) bought himself an 8 GB iPod Touch 2 years ago (after saving his allowance for years!).

He pretty quickly ran out of room. For pictures, videos, music and games 8 GB really isn't much space. He's forced to decide what he wants to delete every time he wants to download/add something.

He loves it, uses it every day and is begging for a new 32 GB one with Siri lol.

If you are intending for it to be just for games then 8 GB is enough.

My dds only have the 8 gb ones and they watch movies/TV shows on them all the time. They can't store them all on their iPods though (I think with the 32 gb iPod they would still have to do this, they have a lot of movies/TV shows:rolleyes1).

When they want to they change the movies/TV shows around, they connect to iTunes and change things around. Only takes a few minutes and I don't have to do anything - moving things around is pretty easy and they have been able to do it by themselves since they got them (7 and 9). I know they have 4-6 hours of video on their iPods at a time.

Dh were buying them for Christmas and since we were buying 2 at once, we didn't want to spend the cost of 2 32 gbs, so we got 2 8 gb ones.

If a 4th Gen 8GB is going for about $200 new, why not get this...

I have only bought refurbished iPods and they are fantastic! You cannot tell that they are refurbished. They come with all of the stuff a new iPod comes with (cable, earbuds, instructions), they have a 1-year warranty and they arrive in an Apple box. Seriously, you would never know that they are refurbished.

I have a 3rd gen 64GB that I bought for $229 and we bought DD7 a 3rd gen 32GB for $179. The main difference (and the only one I see) between the 3rd and 4th Gen is that the newer one has a camera. DD would fill her iPod with pictures of her feet and the ceiling if she had a camera! If your son is not interested in using as a camera, try this:

It's a great deal for a 32GB. You'll have to figure out if the capacity or the camera is more important.

Not telling you how to spend your money but I found for 20.00 more I could have a 16GB one. I have mine on layaway at walmart. I'm sure Target or Toys r us will have deals in near future making the 20.00 difference almost nothing.
