SPOKANE - A rare tornado touched down in the Spokane area Friday afternoon during a storm that brought high winds, lightning and hail to northeast Washington before sweeping eastward into north Idaho.

The tornado touched down in a rural area west of Fairchild Air Force Base about 4:15 p.m.

I didnt even know what tornado alley was until we moved to Texas. We lived 2 blocks off of Interstate 35. Our town was hit really hard one year. Over $1 million damage to our brand new community center and library. Church friends lost their home. My neighbor risked his life to knock on my door to tell me the siren meant we need to get into the tornado closet. My dh had moved to start new job , but I never grabbed those 3 ds so fast in all my life. It is not a fun experience to live through. Bless all those who have to go through that.

The weather has just been strange around here since yesterday! Today the downpours started, they were listing off car accidents on the radio - he just kept going and going! It's spring in the NW, you never know what's going to happen!

We had a horendous thunderstorm here last night. As I was driving this afternoon, I saw a tree that was ripped out by the roots. Now that's NOT just a thunderstorm!
