I think we're over the values...

We stay at the value resorts because we want to spend our money in the parks and on dinner/shopping rather than the resorts, but we also don't spend much time at our resort so the amenities aren't that important. As far as safety goes I have never felt unsafe at the value resorts and tend to prefer exterior hallways since there tends to be a higher risk for trying to break into a room outside - more chance of people walking by to see you. That's just me though. :) I'm guessing if we ever do pull the trigger and stay at a deluxe I'll be so in love I won't want to go back.

Don't count on it.

We own DVC. But In September 2017, I stayed with a friend at All Start Sports.

We didn't have any problems with our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed the resort. We even spent some time at the resort. Enough to eat 3 dinners there. We even watched two movies. My next stay is at Jambo House, with my husband. But I would have no problem with staying at another value.

We stay where we can afford to stay. We go several times a year and stay at all the levels, including camping. Its funny that when we go to the values we have just as much fun, if not more. This christmas we are at ASMo because we were late in deciding, and this was what was available (a code helped too!). Our "booklet" arrived yesterday and the kids were so excited, you would have thought we had booked the most expensive room at WDW. Staying at a value just means what a lot of people say-more money to do more things!

This is so encouraging. We own DVC and are staying at all star music in September. Going back to AKL after that, but just hoping for a decent stay this time. I know it won’t be the POLY or AKL, but just need a place to sleep because we are going with a huge group of first timers- they are planning lots of park time.

The moderates are a good sweet spot for me. I have rented DVC points in the past, which get you deluxe accommodations at a moderate price. I did have a good experience at AOA with the family suites, however I did not care for the ALl Star family suites when I stayed there for a few nights.

I did splurge for two nights at the poly on my last trip, and while it was wonderful, I still don’t think the cost was justified. My absolute favorite resort is the Wilderness Lodge.

We have stayed at POR, BC and AKL in the past. This is our first value stay at Pop and I didn’t expect to like it, but it’s cute and clean and the beds are VERY comfortable. I don’t like exterior doors tho, because of the weather and the privacy of the windows. Food options are very limited, but the pool is nice. But then again, some people complain that the deluxes don’t have the huge food courts...
I will definitely pick deluxes if we can afford it in the future, but this trip our deluxe splurge will be for our UO portion of the trip at Portofino Bay.
Love the laminate floors and the decor is cute, so if it’s value or nothing I would not hesitate to stay here again.
And it does NOT look like a Motel 6 at all, much nicer than those pictures posted earlier in the thread. Better decor/theming for sure.
And my 21 year old son thinks that Pop IS deluxe lol. He loves it here at Pop and wants to come back 8-)

Everybody has to make their own judgement as to value, affordability, and their own particular vacation style. We have stayed at BC, WL, most of the moderates, and all the values over more than 35 trips since 1989. Since the kids are grown and it is just the wife and I we have settled into a pretty regular routine which is an AP and stays alternately at POFQ and PoP. We love POFQ and always will but since we try and do a minimum of three trips a year budget wise for us it just does not make sense to go deluxe. Maybe we should have bought into DVC years ago but given as much as we go we would still be staying outside of DVC. And maybe I need to look at renting points for when we eventually take our kids and their spouses. But when I can go with AP and stay at Pop for $1,100 or less for a week then the trip becomes relatively cheap, and we can do more of them. Also our touring style is leave the room in the morning and generally don't get back to it till late at night. We love the parks, and touring the other resorts for shopping and just looking.

Also given the fact I get six weeks of vacation a year and still roll six every year and get every other Friday off I have lots of vacation to burn and need to keep costs down a little. If it was one trip a year then I am sure we would lean to more deluxe stays.

I have stayed at all levels of resort and had great vacations at all of them. Right now, I’ve been doing Pop stays exclusively to build my savings back up after buying a car last year. I’m sort of having the opposite problem to a lot of the posters, as I have been having such a good time at Pop that now that I can book more expensive resorts again, I am not sure I want to. My worst stays as far as crowds and noise in room issues have all been at deluxe resorts (note - if you want to check out at 2:00am, please don’t have shouted conversations down the hall about who’s calling the cab, and did you check the safe, etc. :headache: It’s annoying to those of us who are sleeping). I am not saying I will always stay in a value, but it’s awfully tempting to save the money when I know I will still have fun.

I believe noise issues are more about who your neighbors are than the resort itself, and that connecting rooms will always be noisier than non connecting ones. We have the “turbo flush” toilets in our house, so I don’t notice those like some people would.
