DH and I met for lunch and went over the numbers. We would barely be tapping into my commission checks and as long as we always kept $1000 in the bank (in case one month I miss getting one) we feel we would be okay. We are going to go home tonight and look over all the paperwork one more time. One of the reasons we are considering this is the option to stay other places. We are wanting to go to Hawaii in 2007 for our anniversary. We will probably rent out points for 2004/2005 or bank them.

Thanks everybody for all their help it has been a crazy morning and I haven't gotten much work done today (shhh! Don't tell my boss). It is hard to borrow more money when you feel you are so close to getting out of debt. I guess the student loans will have to wait a few more years before they are paid off.

Plus as Rich said, it would be UnAmerican if we didn't buy.

COngratulations! Good decision. You might even try trading for that Hawaii vacation! We did that last year, and got a wonderful week on the Big Island for just 160 points.

We didnt think it of taling on debt, but as an investment in our health. My DH is a type A pesonality and he WOULD NEVER take time off. By having DVC and use it or lose it we are forced to use it. So, we take time off and he totally relaxes and gets away.
Have fun and buy 100 more than you think you need.

Hi,

Congrats!!! Best of luck & keep us posted!

WOW, you listened to Rich:crazy:

Congratulations!!!! You will never regret your decision....

PS Hawaii isn't all it's cracked up to be......

Wishing you and your DH many happy trips to WDW as DVC members. Let us know when you become "official" so we can welcome you home! :)

Over on the debate board, someone figured out how to attach a sound(wav) file to their reply. I know how to do it, and I was trying to get a cool patriotic song to play for that post. The real world called and I had to work.

Glad I was able to inspire without the sound clip.

I'm a newbie here too - I didn't realize you could trade for the other location as opposed to just paying the appropriate number of points. Can you please give me more info?

Amanda,

I know how you feel as we just became members on Sunday even though we are still paying off those student loans too. However, we decided our sanity is worth it!

Best thing you could do would be to contact DVC and get a Guide assigned to you. I'm sure many people will vouch for the fact that a good Guide will apply ZERO pressure in making a sale. DVC sells itself so they really have no reason to try and twist your arm.

DVC allows you to trade your points for stays at other Disney resorts (Disneyland, Disneyland Paris), Disney Cruises, and dozens of non-Disney properties throughout the world.

When you first speak to a Guide, he/she will have a full information packet sent to you. That packet will include a 15-20 minute video that showcases the DVC resorts, as well as many of the other non-Disney properties that are available. The printed materials that they send will have full point charts for the trade-in locations so you know exactly what it will "cost" to stay at the non-DVC properties.

Call a DVC tomorrow. You won't regret it. The promotional rate being run for points at SSR will save you 11-12% (at LEAST $1500) off of the normal investment price, but it ends in just a couple of weeks.

Thanks, I understood this but the original post by dianeschlicht gave me the impression that she traded outside of the normal methods due to the low number of points she quoted. Maybe I just misunderstood.
