On our last night of our WDW vacation we went swimming at one of the pools where we stayed. It was late. After 11. There were these two boys already swimming there. They looked to be about 10 or 11. My DD is 9 but she's very tall for her age. She's already taller than her brother, much to his annoyance, and he's almost 11!!! She could easily pass for a 10 or 11 yr old.

Anyways, my twins went to the kiddie pool because they are only 5 and can't swim and they wanted her to be with them so she went into the kiddie pool with them.

I noticed the boys kept looking over at the kiddie pool and talking and I could hear bits of the conversation. Things like "No, you go." And "You do too". Then they got out of the pool and walked over to the kiddie pool. Then one said "My friend wants to go in there with you too." And the kid looked embarrassed and walked away. They kept looking at her and at one point when she looked over at them they smiled at her! She couldn't care less and just went back to playing with her sisters.

I swear if I didn't know better I'd say those two boys were "checking out" my 9 yr old DD!!! :earseek: They certainly were acting all giggly and nervous and weird the way young boys do around a girl they "like".

At first I thought "Hey, that's so cute. They seem to like her." Then I thought "Wait a minute that's my daughter your smiling at!" :rotfl2:

9, 10 and 11 is too young to be doing this. Isn't the opposite sex still gross to kids at that age?

I think DH and I will have to invest in a good shotgun with this DD! :goodvibes She already looks two years older than she is. What will happen when she's 14?!!

you have no idea how jealous I am that you could be swimming. It is so cold outside right now.

I think it's about the age. My son has had crushes since about 11 yrs old.

I feel your pain ! I just noticed my DD10 getting checked out for the first time this summer. FREAKED ME OUT!!!!!

I know the road you are headed down & good luck. Last week, someone mistook my DD11 for a 15 year old. BTW, she's been having major crushes on boys (older ones) since she was 9.

Yesterday, a 13yo at her school asked her to be his girlfriend. OOOhhhh!

OMG, mistaking an 11 yr old for a 15 yr old?!! :earseek: Wow, that is scary. I am not ready for this. Luckily she has expressed no interest in boys at all yet. That I know of anyway.... And why does this seem scarier to me than it would if it was my son that was getting checked out by some girls? :confused3 Ugh, this whole thing makes me want to run out and buy her some Barbie dolls and footed p.j.'s like she wore when she was little!

All I can say is thank goodness DD is still only 6! I don't even want to start thinking about any of that!

Yes, but then she has always looked older than her age. I remember when she was turning 10....our new neighbor asked me, "Does your daughter ever do any babysitting? I have a 5 year old." I replied that DD doesn't babysit, she gets babysat." She had no idea of DD's age.

Sounds like you better get that shotgun ready too! :goodvibes Or at least a really good lock for her door to keep her in and all the boys out! ;)

OMG!! Scary thought! I had an incident last summer, where she was going to a co-ed birthday party. We pulled in, and a boy came running to the car to greet us. Silly, naive me, I thought, "Oh, that's the birthday boy, and he must be anxious for his present!" Well, it WASN'T the birthday boy, and he had no interest in what my DD was carrying!

In my case, DD is small and although puberty is coming, it hasn't really hit yet, unlike some friends of hers. She's just sweet and friendly and nice, doesn't act all ga-ga, even though I told her that's how to scare them off. Even the bus bully has gone from being afraid of her to having a crush on her--poor kid, she doesn't know where she went wrong!

Luckily for me, DD would rather eat a bug than have anything to do with boys..at least for now! But I don't think it's too early for all of us to start shopping at Burkas-R-Us!
