I was out walking this evening and ran into a neighbor. She asked me if my cat was out last night because she saw a strange cat (we have several neighborhood cats) hanging around my house. We don't really know each other very well and she's never seen my cat, but knows I have one.
My first reaction was to say "no, we don't let her out". Then I realized that I didn't remember seeing her all day. That's not really strange though because ever since our baby was born, she doesn't hang around us very often. So, I went inside and called her and she didn't come. I asked my husband if he had seen her this morning (he's the one who feeds her in the morning) and he said no. He left to go out of town this afternoon too.
I looked around my house and some of the neighbors' houses, but didn't see anything. I couldn't really do much being home alone with a 3yo and a newborn. And my DH doesn't get home until tomorrow evening. I don't know what else to do except hope that she comes back and stays close to the house. She's a pretty smart cat, but she doesn't have her claws. We have some wooded areas around our house, but I don't ever see any wild animals that could get her. I talked to my neighbors whose cats wander around and they said their cats don't have claws either. So, that makes me feel a little better.
I'm just sick that this happened. She must have snuck out when we took the trash out last night. This will be her second night out of the house. I did put some food out on the front porch for her if she does come back. Hopefully, that will convince her to stay close until I can get up and look again in the morning.
