I was out walking this evening and ran into a neighbor. She asked me if my cat was out last night because she saw a strange cat (we have several neighborhood cats) hanging around my house. We don't really know each other very well and she's never seen my cat, but knows I have one.

My first reaction was to say "no, we don't let her out". Then I realized that I didn't remember seeing her all day. That's not really strange though because ever since our baby was born, she doesn't hang around us very often. So, I went inside and called her and she didn't come. I asked my husband if he had seen her this morning (he's the one who feeds her in the morning) and he said no. He left to go out of town this afternoon too.

I looked around my house and some of the neighbors' houses, but didn't see anything. I couldn't really do much being home alone with a 3yo and a newborn. And my DH doesn't get home until tomorrow evening. I don't know what else to do except hope that she comes back and stays close to the house. She's a pretty smart cat, but she doesn't have her claws. We have some wooded areas around our house, but I don't ever see any wild animals that could get her. I talked to my neighbors whose cats wander around and they said their cats don't have claws either. So, that makes me feel a little better.

I'm just sick that this happened. She must have snuck out when we took the trash out last night. This will be her second night out of the house. I did put some food out on the front porch for her if she does come back. Hopefully, that will convince her to stay close until I can get up and look again in the morning.

Awww... that's awful. I hope everything works out and you find her.

I have 2 cats and would be devastated if I lost one of them.(even though one is really mean:( ) If she has never been out maybe she knows not to wonder so far from her home.

Good Luck to you

Post signs in your neighborhood and an ad in the local newspaper. Offer an award.

I have heard that if you put something from the house out in the yard it helps the cat to find it's own home.

Maybe you could put her litter box out in the yard??

At least it is not the middle of winter and she won't get too cold.

Good luck. I hope your cat returns safely.

Isn't it frightening when they get out of the house like that?
Ours (declawed and totally a house cat) escaped a few years back and he was gone for almost 2 weeks before showing up on the doorstep! Skinny and skittish, but fine nevertheless.
I hope yours comes home soon. Putting their favorite food out is a good idea.

It's not unusual for cats to disappear for a while. My declawed cat, Spenser, did that for several days and then came home. I think he was hiding in the bushes close by our house.

My brothers grumpy cat got mad when he had to stay with our parents for a few days. He got out of the house and ran away. We thought he was lost forever, and three weeks later we spotted him in a tree one block from our house.

Cats are interesting little creatures- I hope you find yours soon.

Hope your cat comes home tomorrow or is waiting at your door step when you wake up. Maybe buy some fish to attract her back to the house.

There is a pretty good chance your cat will come back ... my grandma let our cat out on accident and he came back a couple of hours later and waited on the door step to be let in (mind you that our cat was never let out side in his life) ... my grandma didn't tell anyone until a week later

Also... I know this is going to sound stupid but if you take a plastic bag and shack it slowly around the neighborhood she might come out ... our vet told us that

the reason we asked was b/c my aunt was transporting her 4 cats to her new home (one at a time, they were out door cats and she planned on making them indoor) ... one of them jumped out of her hands before getting into the new home and they couldn't find him ... so late one night she took our vets advice and went around the neighborhood rattling the bag (in a soft tone) and after 2 nights came out from under a house (that had a hole) about 2 blocks a way ...

I don't know really why this would work ... the vet said something about the sound and the cat's ears but the later you go at night the better ...

thanks everyone for your good thoughts and concern. I spotted her at the back door while I was in the kitchen making a bottle at 1:30 this am. Good thing she's white otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen her. She seems to be fine, but she had a slug stuck to her fur. I had to cut it out. Yuck!!! Why does stuff like this have to happen when the man is out of town???

Here's hoping your kitty returns soon.
Is she microchipped? Have you tried calling any shelters to see if they picked her up? Please keep us updated.

You need to change your thread title! :):):):):):) I'm SO relieved for you! I almost lost my cat and found her, I was so overprotective of her after that! LOL!!

 I'm glad that your cat has returned home safely ::yes::

 When DSIL had 2 little ones, her house catt snuck out and ended up in a tree for several days. No one would help get her down and she did come down on her own. She never did wander near the front door again!

I'm sorry, I don't know how to change the title. I will if someone can tell me. Thanks again for all the nice thoughts.
