DS just completed 6th grade yesterday. They got out of school at 11:30. About 6:30 last night, I went into his room and found him sitting on his bed with tears in his eyes. He told me he was bored and he was upset that school had ended so soon.

Day camp doesn't start until July 7. I have a few things set up for us to do before then, but I think I may have to add a few things to the list.

I didn't expect to hear the I'm bored line until August.

Tuesday was DS last day (also 6th grade). It was a half day. He was home by 1:30. At 5:30 I heard those famous words....."I'm so bored."

Maybe it's the age.
My DD just finished 7th and I haven't heard those words from her.......YET!

Good luck!

DS last day of 5th grd was Wed the 18th. Last Th & Fri I heard the "Im bored" line. Told him Id sign him up for more camp, maybe we could send him to summer school, etc; have him read more. Had to explain that Mom & Dad both work during the wk but we can do things on the wknd.
Then the wknd came and we were busy.
This wk I did hear "what are we doing this wknd?"

Summer starts off and ends up slow for about 2wks on both ends.
Then with our 3 trips (two 3nights, one 6nights) and DS going to camp for 3 interspersed wks through the summer he'll be looking to have his time to himself again.

My granddaughter LOVES school and was feeling sad and miserable too her first week off for summer vacation.

Our solution was to hold an hour or two of "school" per day at her little desk in our living room. It's been working great and she's actually working hard at her reading and math skills.

Sometimes it's really hard to keep them occupied and happy all summer. Good luck to you....

Mine is in high school and I am already hearing I am bored!!

Then I say.....Go read those two books you have to write an essay on....things get pretty quiet after that!!!

I'm planning to do the same thing. One hour of reading, and 30 minutes of math of each day.

I think we're going to end up doing some of the typical NYC tourist stuff, that may perk him up a bit.
