I'm a little stunned at something that just happened, and I think I should be flattered.
I'm a travel agent, and I have my CTC certification. Before I was certified I went to the annual general meeting for the CITC (they're the folks in charge of education and professional development for Canadian travel agents, and for letting the public know what a CTC is). At this meeting someone I know tried to nominate me for the regional council, but I wasn't a CTC yet so wasn't eligible.
Last week I received a phone call from the national certification manager asking me to give a presentation to a group of home-based agents on why they should be certified. Okay, that's cool.
Today I just got an email from the president of CITC asking me to be on the regional council, as the chair is having to step down and they need another person on the council. I'll be an "appointment" until the next round of elections in the spring, at which time I can stand for elections for a 2 year term.
I'm a little stunned, and I think I'm flattered. I've had some contact with the president before, as he personally graded a (final) course paper I sent in and sent it back with remarks that it was probably the most professional submission he'd seen. I'm thinking maybe that's why he contacted me about taking the seat on the council.
Either that or they couldn't find anyone else willing to do it!
Just had to tell someone, and you folks ended up being it!
