UPDATE post 7

I think DH and I had a miscommunication.

We leave on Saturday to go to Disney and I just realized the Dining Plan we are on doesn't include an appetizer.

DH wasn't really happy about the way the plan was set up but I thought he said to book that one. We made made our reservations and just today (for some reason!) I decided to look at the brochure again and there is no appetizer. It's only for children 3-9 at the table service meals.

I called Guest Services and we can change it. But I think she said the difference is $505! And um.. isn't it too late to make reservations anyway?

I sent DH a text.. he's in a meeting and he is supposed to call me back.

*sigh*

The basic dining plan does not include appetizers for adults, that is correct.

The deluxe dining plan does. But as you have discovered, it is more expensive and you get more meal credits to use. If you are OK with using some of them for CS (they are interchangeable) you can use them. You can also probably get a reservation somewhere on property for TS meals. Might not be in or close to a park, but you can probably get them somewhere.

Neither plan, regular or deluxe, includes appetizers at CS meals or breakfast. (Gratuities at TS are not included either).

You have until 72 hours before your arrival to upgrade your dining plan. You may also be charged $15 for making a change to your package within two weeks of arrival. You can also decide that you are willing to pay OOP for an appetizer where you want one.

I'm still waiting on DH to call....

We were looking at at least SOME out of pocket costs since the plan we have covers 1 QS, 1 snack and 1 TS.... But we'll have to decide if it is worth it for us. Oh and the refillable mug is in the next package up.. DH was going to buy those anyway too.

I see a night of numbercrunching ahead...

Will you really eat $505 worth of appetizers? ;)
Keep what you have and just pay OOP for the places you want to have an appetizer at.
It would make very little sense to upgrade to the Deluxe Plan at this point.
You would need to make quite a few more ADR's to make it worth the cost of the upgrade. And I am not sure how much luck you would have getting anything 5 days away. In addition to the cost of upgrading, you will now be increasing the amount of $$ you will be spending on tips.
I would bet if you just pay for the appetizers and mugs, you will still come out ahead. :)

At this point i think you are better off paying out of pocket for the appetizers. The deluxe plan is going to be too much to plan in less than a week and a couple of appetizers won't cost you $550.

Hmmm.. true (We won't eat $505 in appetizers.) Dh was eyeing some of the signature rest. before we made our ADRs. Of course back then even Le Cellier was booked. And that is where he was really interested in.

DH's thing is that this is probably our one trip just the two of us for quite some time... I dunno. He's crunching numbers and looking at reservations.

I think we've decided to just go with the flowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. (Huge NEMO fans here.)

Okay.. so no appetizers, but we have FREEDOM. We are only tied down by our evening reservations and our 1 tour.

I'm going to tell him not to worry about it. We'll just use our spending money to pay OOP for some apps and be done with it.

PHEW. I was really, really worried he'd be upset but he's taking it in stride. He said when he called to confirm everything he was told appetizers too. :confused3 Still, we booked, we should have checked.

Thanks guys!
