I think I may be heading vegetarian

Why because he doesn't agree with you? The poster had been a member for over 3 years and has over a thousand posts. How does that fit the definition of a troll?

He came on to this thread of serious conversation not to add anything constructive, but to say a smart a$$ comment. To me, that is a troll.

Yes, indeed: There has been a lot of substantive disagreement on this thread - respectful, constructive contributions, from both the pro-vegetarian perspective and the animal-eating perspective. Then there were a few posters who posted messages just to insult an ethical perspective that they personally didn't like.

 Are you the hall monitor or something?

If you have something substantial to add to the conversation, I will gladly engage in a "sparring of words" with you. :thumbsup2 Otherwise, I will ignore such posts as the above.

Actually the one thing that influences politians more then donor money is voters. It doesn't matter how much money a law maker has if he can't get votes. I wouldn't support any group that wanted to end the meat industry, but I would stand up for one that was campaigning for stricter regulations on feeding and processing of animal products (a real group not the idiots at PETA). I wouldn't support a group that called for the end of traveling farm workers (either citizens or immigrants), but I would support a group that lobbied for better laws on working conditions.

I don't really have that much faith in the political process, I guess. It takes massive amounts of donor money to run a successful campaign, and we've all seen how often it happens that a representative gets to Washington and accomplishes exactly nothing that he campaigned on. It takes far fewer people to cause a change in market preferences than it does to elect enough legislators to build the momentum for changes to the law, and shopping choices aren't complicated by the myriad other issues involved in deciding who to vote for.

Just look at what has happened recently with high fructose corn syrup - not that long ago it was in everything. Organic was the only choice for HFCS-free bread, yogurt, ketchup, crackers, etc. But now Wheat Thins, Gatorade, Heinz, Aunt Millies, Pepsi's "throwback" line, and many other major name brand products have phased it out, all in response to a small but vocal and growing minority of consumers.

You should have taken your own advise in the first place and not launched a personal attack! :thumbsup2

Personally, I think the blood type diet thing is a bunch of hooey. I'm O+ and do great as a vegetarian.

That's good to know, I was just curious. ;) But even if people with O blood and that being the oldest blood were meat eaters, it is fair to think that we humans may like to evolve past being meat eaters. The only reason I even give the blood type diet any credence is bc I am a B blood type, and I read that B blood types are prone to autoimmune disease which I have. I found that very interesting. I also read that for some reason that B blood types should not eat chicken and now I eat little, and am trying for more than that, and no pork whatsoever. I do yoga also and I find that the less meat I eat, that there are times that I actually feel nauseous when I try to eat it. I hate the idea that animals are not treated humanely and that we eat them. There are countless studies showing that eating more vegs, and at least less meat make healthier humans.

I am B, but have never given much thought to the blood type diet ideas. It just seems odd to me that blood would guide someone's diet? But, I haven't done any research, so who's to say it's not possible?

As you say, there are countless studies that show meat is not only not necessary, it is actually detrimental to humans. I just don't understand why people don't realize that. Is it because of tradition, or because change is scary?

"Tradition" would explain why some people would want to continue eating meat; "Change is scary" would explain why some people would attack vegetarianism.

And you took the bait, didn't you? Why not just ignore him? Responding aggressively or in kind is just giving him what he wants. Ignore him. Eventually he will go away.

I don't eat meat due to tradition. I eat it because I like the taste. If someone is serving a meat that I don't like, then I won't eat it. I don't eat it out of obligation. I have never known anyone to eat meat out of tradition unless it was a holiday or something.

The only reason I have ever attacked vegetarianism is because the person has tried to shove it down my throat or tried to make me feel like a horrible person for eating meat. I could care less what a person eats. It is their body and if they don't want to eat meat, then more power to them. Don't try to force me to eat your way though. It is called respect and unfortunately you are going to find people on both sides of the fence who lack it.

Since I wasn't trolling, there was no bait offered. Just a comment. Don't like it, then ignore it. Nor am I going anywhere.

I agree 100%.

Very well written and I completely agree.

It is quite amazing the turn around on the over consumption of HFCS :thumbsup2.
