We originally had ADRs at Mama Melrose for the FDP. After reading and hearing less than spectacular reviews I went against my own logic and changed it to H&V. Now everything I read is how bad H&V has become. Who has been lately? Is there really that big of a difference? Or are both places equally mediocore? Thanks.

I've eaten both places and wasn't totally thrilled by either. We pretty much did it for the Fantasmic seating, so it worked out fine. Don't stress about it - I think either decision would be fine.

Ive never beento H&V, but my family enjoy Mama Melrose on every trip. Its one of our favorites! :)

But, to make you feel better, I do believe if you look up any restaurant you will find both good and bad reviews. If something interests you, I think you should try it.

If you read these boards long enough, you're going to see every eatery in WDW get fabulous reviews and terrible reviews. Sometimes on the same day. :lmao: Honestly, I've seen a particular restaurant described as having 'the best food in WDW", and further down on the page, someone will say they had the worst meal they've ever had in their lives there.

Bottom line.....I've never changed an ADR because of a bad review. Not that I don't believe people who say they had a terrible meal, but taste in food is such an individual thing. If someone says they hated the food at MM, it doesn't always mean it was prepared badly, or that I wouldn't love the same dish if I tried it. As for reports of bad service, every waiter has bad days, and I figure if they're truly bad, they'll probably have quit or been fired by the time I go.

I just look over the menus, and choose my ADRs based on what looks good.

I have never had a good meal at Mama Melrose, however have had many many very good meals at H&V.
Sometimes I think the quality of the meal has more to do with the eater than the food.
:thumbsup2

sometimes by the same poster! :rotfl2:

we've dined at both MM and H&V... we enjoyed both... we'd do both again...

Rest easy. You haven't made a huge mistake. Out of the trifecta of FDP options, I don't think you'll hear too many arguments that the HBD is the best of the lot, but also the priciest.

H&V is a buffet, of course, and unless you're just adverse to buffets, you'll do just fine. We happen to like buffets, and from strictly a quality standpoint, H&V is certainly more upscale than, say, a Golden Corral. (And some days, a Golden Corral is acceptable to me - I'm not that hard to please.)

One mediocre meal is not going to take the thrill out of not having to wait so blasted long for Fantasmic seating. The worst I've ever had at H&V would rate an "average."

We just ate at Mama Mel Rose and it was wonderful. The service was great and the food was very good. I always get the Chicken Parmagiana--I have never been disappointed. I had read all the bad post and I went anyway. We had a wonderful dinner and the restaurant was sold out and turning numerious families away. I would try to change back if there are any openings. Don't wait until you get there. I know what I just saw and it wasn't the busy time of year. We had the Fantastmic menu too.

We did the Fantasmic package and Mama Melrose was our first choice, but we could only get H&V, and it worked out just fine. The buffet food was pretty good, and we had a great waitress!

Relax, you'll have a nice meal. Enjoy!

Definitely just look at the menu & make your decision on that. You can't decide based on someone elses opinion. BTW, we're doing Mama Melrose with the Fantasmic package because I thought we might enjoy Italian more than a buffet.

I consider myself pretty discriminating and I absolutely loved H&V when I was there last month. The first time I did the Fantasmic Dinner Pkg I went to the Brown Derby and was disappointed. I really don't think you've made a mistake. I've been to all 3 and was very surprised to find the H&V is my favorite.

Whatever you try would be okay. Like the they said... to each his own. Not everybody liked Spirit of Aloha but my family absolutely loved it, if I went ahead and cancel because someone said something bad about it, my whole family would never have enjoyed the food, and entertainment.

Well, in other case your experience will not be good, don't worry you can b*tch about it here.... :furious: we are always here to listen.. :listen:

We did the FDP at H&V last October and the food was fine. There was maybe one thing I didn't care for, but there was PLENTY to choose from - just make another trip to the buffet line! There wasn't anything bad about the restaurant except that it was FREEZING cold. I would have enjoyed it more if I had thought to bring a jacket.

Since we had a good experience there last time we are going back in August. I also booked FDP for one of our nights in December. But I will admit that all the recent bad reviews are making me a little nervous! I have been there before, had a good experience, and still I'm a little worried! We'll see how it goes in August. If it is fine then we'll keep the ADR for December. If it is yucky we'll change to something else!

Ive never been to H&V - Mama Melroses, however, I have been to - and plan on going back. We really, really enjoyed our dinner(s) there.

Now - keep in mind - reviews of any restaurants should be taken with a grain of salt. Everyones taste-buds and expectations differ. Odds are - youll enjoy *something* about wherever you pick.

People hate Chef Mickey's - we love Chef Mickey's!

People love Tangereine Cafe - we hate Tangereine Cafe! Same goes for Marrakesh! Blech!

Everyone is different. Youll be happy with either one. :teeth:
