I just ordered a Toy Story dvd online from outbackdvds.com. Now I am worried it is a scam and my credit card is being stolen as we speak. Please comfort me.

Why do you think it's a scam?

Why do you think it's a scam?

There is no phone number listed on the site. I just received a confirmation email from service@paypal.com with a receipt number only and no other contact information, with instructions not to reply to the email. It was an "https" site, which is supposed to be encrypted. Maybe I am being paranoid, but it just feels wrong.

Hmmm.. Maybe you could google this site to see if anything nasty comes up?

There was a site I was going to order DVD's from too - can't remember the name of it - but couldn't find any info on them and thought the prices were a little too low.. They also had DVD's of tv shows that are not currently available anywhere else.. In the end I decided not to do it - so I can definitely understand your concern..

Did you pay through Paypal? Maybe you can check there and see what's what..

Good luck - and let us know how it turns out..:santa:

Nextag and Pricegrabber list them on their sites.

Isn't toy story in the vault? I had thought it wasn't being released again (for purchase) until the third one comes out?

If you paid through Paypal, you should be fine.

You are right. I am sure it's a copy and I have been "took." I am kicking myself and my DH will be mad.

Okay, I'm curious. The link legalsea postted was to a Japanese company, but the OP is talking about an Australian company. Maybe I should have scrolled down further in the link?

Anyway OP, I think the site looks legit. Lots of companies send out auto-confirmations, and you can't reply because it's just an automated message to let you know your order was received.

I think if you paid with Paypal you have options if the product is not as advertised, and I also think your info is safe if you paid through Paypal.

Lots of discount places don't staff phone banks. That's one of the ways they keep prices low. :goodvibes Unless you live in Australia, I'm not sure why you'd want to call there (to talk to a company, I mean. I would guess the cost of the call would negate your savings on the DVD).

I hope your vid arrives safely!

ETA - I see the site is verified by VeriSign, so at any rate, I wouldn't worry about your CC info. Whether or not the vid is legit is a different matter. My thoughts are - if it's in the Vault, and you CAN'T buy it legally, what other option is there? (I hate that Disney does that, but that's a topic for another thread - lol)

Well, we can comfort each other. I ordered Lion King from onlinediscountz.com. I'm crossing my fingers that it will all work out. The company I used has given a USPS tracking number and does have a 1 800 number and a process for refunds. I figured it was worth a shot, it was under $15 so if it isn't the real deal I'm not out a lot. We shall see. Good luck.:thumbsup2

From what I am reading, it sounds like Outback DVDS is the same organization as Panda DVDS. I don't understand why I received a paypal message when I used my visa, but I am naive about this kind of thing. I rarely buy anything online.

The paypal message says payment will be made to Thoang Chin, Outback DVDs. So, I will probably receive a poor quality bootleg dvd, hopefully in English. But my 2 yo grandson may not know the difference! :rotfl: Live and learn.

This is almost certainly a bootlegged copy of the movie. Once they go in the vault, most of the copies for sale are bootlegs from Asia. You can find legit DVDs on Amazon, but they will cost you big $$$$. Or you can find new & used legit DVDs on ebay, just read the descriptions carefully.

My wife recently found a DVD set of Major Dad that was from a company very much like this one. No problem with the billing (I used my Visa; I like to use credit cards since I check the visa website daily and I can easily stop payment etc).

Major Dad is not officially out on DVD. The DVDs we received are obviously bootleg, with rather crummy labels on the DVDs. Since they are a Christmas present we have not viewed them. They shipped from China or Japan.

Anyway, I would not worry too much.

I wasn't looking for disney DVD's.. I went in search of 2 tv shows - "Any Day Now" and I think the other was "Judging Amy".. Not available on Amazon or any of the traditional sites, but this other site (wish I could remember the name) had all of the seasons - for what I thought was a very low price.. That - combined with the fact that they can't be found on Amazon and elsewhere - was my tip off that maybe I shouldn't order from them..

Ah, well. As you say, live and learn. Hopefully the DVD will be in English!

Thanks. I guess I have learned my lesson. I am wondering if I should just try to stop payment or cancel my order. I will keep you posted.
I would not cancel my order.

Your payment was processed through PayPal. This is very good news. First, it means that the retailer did not have access to your credit card info, so they cannot do anything bad with it. Second, it means that you have buyer protection through PayPal. If it turns out that the DVD is a bootleg, you can make a complaint through PayPal and get your money back. In these cases, they probably won't even require you to return the item.

If for some reason PayPal is unable or unwilling to refund your payment, report the issue to your bank.

Please keep us posted on whatever happens.
