I think I have a pill stuck in my throat

I took an Aleve about 30 minutes ago for a headache. I think it got stuck. I can feel something right at the back of my throat on my left side. It isn't painful, just feels like it's stuck back there. It doesn't feel like it's very far down at all. I've tried drinking water, gagging (yuk!), eating something, swallowing all the time . . . Nothing seems to make a difference. Should I be concerned or will it eventually dissolve? Anyone ever have this happen and have any tips?

I would think it would dissolve. My Grandpa used to tell me to eat a piece of bread if I got a fishbone stuck in my throat, but luckily it never happened.:confused3

Did you try drinking something hot? I would think this may help it dissolve faster. I remember once babysitting when I was a teenager and one of the kids ate a hard candy that got stuck. I had her drink some tea and she said it helped. Good luck!

Hopefully it's still not stuck right now, but bananas work wonders when it happens to me...

I had this happen to me before, and it took 3 or 4 days for it to finally dissolve! It didn't work for me, but I read that hot water often does the trick. Good luck.

It's still there this morning:headache: This dumb stuff always seems to happen to me. I just heard the other day about someone who had a Tylenol PM stuck and they had to run a scope down to get it out. I definitely don't want that. Steph, 3 to 4 days, really? And finally it just went way?

This morning it's making me gag a little. It's just right at the back of my mouth--I swear I should be able to see it if I look in the mirror, but I can't.

Oh well, guess I'll keep trying the home remedies. I really don't want to make a trip to the doctor today.

It may have just irritated your esophagus, and just feels like something is there now. NSAIDs are notorious for that. I wouldn't do anything else out of the ordinary, but go easy on your system for a couple of days. Some liquid maalox or mylanta may soothe it.

It's probably not stuck.

You probably just swallowed it "wrong" or without enough water and then it abraded something on the side of your throat--you know how a scratch in that area.

The sensation will go away once the scratch heals. There's just no way an Aleve is stuck at this point. They aren't that big and they dissolve fairly well.

Recently I was put on Prednisone. Well it "kept getting stuck" in my throat.

Little did I know I was having a reaction to the meds. :headache: I started to develop Candidiasis (yeast). I still have it somewhat.
I also went into "steroid psychosis".

I ate bread, drank hot tea, and anything else to get those pills down.:scared:
Good Luck.....:guilty:

Really? It sure feels like something is back there. It actually makes me gag once in a while. I sure hope you are right.

My suggestion would be to see if you can visit the doctor today so that you can alleviate any concerns you may have about it. Not that I think you have a reason to be concerned but, if it doesn't go away today, you'll be worried over the weekend (when the doctors are closed).

I'm also thinking that it could be the sensation of a scratch or bruise when you were swolling the pill. The nerves in there are all jumbled up and can get confused ;) For example, when my dentist drills on one side of my mouth she also has to numb the other because I'll feel it there too! :rotfl:
