I suffer from motion sickness. Can I ride...?

For star tours ask the CM to let you sit in the very middle. That way you will get less of the motion. I wouldn't suggest doing EE at all with your condition.

We're going to WDW in less than 3 weeks - yay! My 16-year-old cousin picked our Fast Passes, and I'm a little nervous. I get motion sick, and while I'll be bringing Dramamine with me, I'm wondering if anyone else with this problem can shed some light on how these rides might affect me?

- Star Tours
- Expedition Everest
- Big Thunder Mountain
- Test Track

I'm definitely staying away from anything with loops or that goes around and around... and Mission: Space. I'm not too worried about BTM because I've heard it's not exactly an extreme coaster. I think I'll be OK with Test Track as well. I'm most concerned about Star Tours since it's a motion simulator.
I've not ridden Expedition Everest ... but my family suggests I avoid Star Tours. I do fine on Test Track & Big Thunder.

One attraction that caught me off guard was Mickey's Philharmagic. Hoo boy. :crazy2:

If you request a seat in a back corner on Star Tours, the motion sickness potential is greatly reduced. The screen does not fill your entire field of vision, so your brain doesn't struggle as much. You still get to enjoy the ride without the same degree of discomfort.

Don't you love totally conflicting advice? There's also both "focus on the screen" and "look away from the screen" as advice.

I'd heard that the back corners at Star Tours (original version) give you the best ride (most motion) because it's further from the pivot points. I agree with that conclusion, but don't know if it changed with the updated version.

As for the motion sickness, I don't know enough about it to comment on which one of you is correct, just enough to know that both are plausible. Conflict between vision and physical sensation seems to be part of the problem.

I also experience motion sickness, though it has lessened quite a bit as I have aged. I have had no issues with EE, BTMRR, or TT. I'm not a Star Wars fan, but rode Star Tours once because I knew my travelling companion wouldn't ride unless I did. I didn't have a problem with it, BUT had taken a Dramamine earlier. I will never ride Mad Tea Party or the intense version of Mission Space. Has anyone else felt queasy during the Aladdin scene in Mickey's Philharmagic? I love that attraction so I don't skip it, but if I begin feeling queasy I close my eyes right away.

I don't have any problem with Test Track or Big Thunder. I take Meclizine daily while we are there. Star Tours is very iffy. If it were any longer, I would be toast. I can usually ride it once, but it does bother me near the end. Everest I love, but I wait to ride in the front. It bothers me much more if I ride in the back.

Can someone tell me if Star Tour is like Spider-Man in Islands of Adventure?
IIRC, Spider-Man is a simulator ride where the simulator moves through a dark ride, making it similar in technology to the Indiana Jones ride at DL Anaheim. While I haven't been on Star Tours since its update, it was a fixed simulator ride, the simulator goes up, down, forward, back, tilts, but doesn't actually move through anything. The experience is based on screens and a limited amount of animatronics within your Star Tours space shuttle.

Resurrecting this thread because I just thought of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I'm worried about the cars swaying from side to side. Will this be an issue? Thanks to everyone who gave me imput, You're all aces! :thanks:

My DH suffers from severe vertigo. He can barely ride in elevators and he can ride everything but the Teacups, Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror and Space Mountain. Everything else he can manage with proper preparations.

The cars DO NOT swing from side to side on Mine Train. I know there were some initial pictures that looked like the did but they do not at all. In fact, it's a VERY smooth ride and it's shorter than Thunder Mountain, no major drops, jerking, etc....

I think you need to try a ride to see how you react with it. I have vertigo and get dizzy on the carousel but I'm fine on mission space. I'm good on ToT but I don't push my luck and go over and over either. I hope things go well for you.

I stay away from the obvious nausea-inducing rides (Mission: Space, Tea cups, Astro Orbiter, etc.). Most others don't bother me at all. RnR Coaster is so smooth. Expedition Everest is tame compared to many coasters I've been on but has given me a slight head rattle before. BTMRR is kids stuff. Test Track is no worse than a car ride in a convertible. But Star Tours... I LOVE that attraction but it makes me feel so ill nowadays I skip it unless I'm doing it to make my son happy. Also, Space Mountain is NOT a smooth ride but it rattles my hip and back worse than my head. And ToT is no problem. I could ride it all day!

Just about everything makes me sick these days. Even the TTC. So I manage my trips with the transdermal scop patch which allows me to happily ride everything.

Thanks for everyone's input. I want to try EE, and I LOVE Star Wars, but I really don't want to include WDW on my list of places I've barfed.

I don't get motion sickness (well, enough to need a remedy) but I CANNOT do Everest anymore.....that backwards part is horrible for me.....just like the stupid Indiana Jones ride in DLRP, the backwards part.....NO GOOD....

well, the cars CAN, and with some strategic moving with the ride, the people in the car can make it move MORE.....it is more fun with it moving! But if you don't want it moving, then just make sure your car mates know that....

My husband gets motion sickness and the only ride that really gave him problems was Mission: Space but not until the very end. He refused to ride the Teacups, but any of the coasters were just fine for him. I didn't hear any complaints about Star Tours, but he's a big Star Wars fan so maybe that won out over the motion sickness. He said he'll try the easy side of Mission: Space on our next trip.

I get motion sickness but I find if I take Dramamine or Bonine, I'm fine on most everything. Star Tours and the teacups still get me though so I avoid them like the plague!!

Another patch user here. Even with it on, I can't ride teacups or mission space, and have to close my eyes on star tours. No problems with anything else. YMMV

How do you make thecars move? Because we rode it three times and not once did our car move even a tiny bit. He was actually concerned about it and we were watching as the ride would go by and then as they were loading/unloading etc...and nothing we saw or felt in the car indicated any kind of individual movement.
