How’s that for a title? I did take it but only for about 5 mins and when I realized I almost dumped my DH out. We were going on small world and you have to transfer to a wheelchair. There was a wheelchair, so I grabbed it and DH got in. Two mins later, I noticed a cell phone in the pocket😲 and then realized it wasn’t a DW wheelchair.

We are still on the trip, but wanted to speak on questions I asked before. Those suction grip handle things. Worked at BLT, not at AKL kidani or BWV 1 bedroom shower. We did use the bath math at all three locals. Not positive it was absolutely needed, but DH felt more secure with it.

All three room were not accessible and DH did need the step for getting in and out of bed.

CM have been wonderful. Ready with a hand about 1/4 of the time. Even at monorail security, guard had his arm out if DH needed to hold on. about half the rides in MK on now on the no go list. We almost had an issue getting on SSE, DH goes to get on moving sidewalk and just couldn’t get footing. They slowed down the speed and he was ok.

Even though he's walking disabled and can step into a tub with some difficulty, my DH prefers to book a roll-in shower HA room.

That way, there's nothing at all to step over, and there are grab bars near a built-in bench.

There's occasionally some water on the floor, but generally those we've had at WDW were better designed than many such elsewhere.

Certainly recommend you consider booking those. DH finds them sooooo much easier.

To add to interesting wheelchair stories. I once worked backstage at an amateur production of Nightmare Before Christmas.

It is 5 minutes before showtime and the actor (able bodied) playing Dr. Finkelstein ran around going crazy, yelling: "where is my wheelchair?!"
Half of the cast stopped preparing for the show and started looking, questioning the actor how he managed to loose a wheelchair.
In the end, it was a foldable wheelchair and a technician was cleaning up backstage, folded the wheelchair and parked it between some sets. 🤣

This post is hilarious. I mean there's so many wheelchairs! I get it.

It's a good example of "Cool your anger" when someone takes your wheelchair/ECV. It could be an honest mistake.
It's also a good example of why I recommend that you tie a ribbon, yarn, or bandana someplace on your mobility device to help identify it.

Mine is Hot Pink and easily identified. I get compliments on my “Hot Wheels” all the time. I’m still looking for something cute, though, to “personalize” my Hot Wheels, like Groot has on hers. Like Ray says about his Fold & Go, that’s how I feel about my Falcon - “best investment I have ever made”. 😁

I'm always paranoid leaving our *rental* wheelchair at any parks or DS. It is just too easy to grab. The ECV needs a key so no worries there.

The high beds are a big issue. If we don't get a HA, I have to push a chair or ottoman up near the bed and crawl in/out. My suction cup only works on smooth shower surfaces. Any tile with texture doesn't work so I've found out as well.

While we are discussing, don't we need more HA parking?

Oops...I'm blushing just thinking that could have been me LOL! I'm hanging around with a *sketchy* group here for sure!

:poop:

the key can be used in other same model ECVs in the park so you or other could get wrong ECV by mistake just like wheelchair

We are coming home tomorrow. We rented a scooter from gold mobility. Scheduled to be picked up at noon. Today I get a text , it will be picked up at 12:30. I wrote back, that won’t work , we are being picked up then by driver. I said we had stated noon. Gold wrote its only a request, and in the email agreement, it says it could be changed. I said how about a bit before noon. They say they will look into it. 6 hours later, no other response. I’m going to text again now.

edited to add. I did text and a bit later, they said they will pick it up at 11:30.

Which is fine, but it shakes my confidence a bit. We signed up for a scooter months ago, not just last week.

Edit to add again.....

Gold lost a customer. I got a text , hope it was great stuff....I said scooter was great, last 24 hour texts were not. He looked didn't see an issue. Told him about the change of time and he said it's stated it could be changed. I said we made the order months ago, not just last week....doesn't matter. The only way to have a set time of pickup is at 6:45 am. I said it's a great scooter, but not worth the worry of last min changes on last day. He thank me for my candor.

That makes me a little nervous. In the past they were always so prompt. Yet this last time, the time for pick up was supposed to be 9:00. The night before, they texted and said it would be 8:30. Then, they texted me at 8:15 at the meeting place asking where I was! This was at OKW, and we were meeting at the main lobby. DH and I had a villa at the other end of the resort-good thing we had a car to get back to our villa, because they said that they don't come to the villa for pick-ups. Next time I'll be solo so I hope things go smoothly.

Since you seem to rent a scooter frequently, have you thought of buying a used one? The cost of a used one is probably the cost of a week’s rental. Even if you buy a new one, it doesn’t take long to recoup your investment by eliminating the rental cost, not to mention the convenience of having it both at home for shopping at the mall and for traveling. I started with a mobility scooter, but now have a Falcon electric wheelchair which I absolutely love. My husband and I think of the expense as a medical necessity, no different than paying for his costly hearing aids. Tell Santa that‘s what you want for Christmas. 🎅🏻

This is why I bought a length of fabric with a Tinkerbell design to make a slip cover for my personal scooter. It also helps with not getting scorched by a black plastic seat that's been sitting in the sunshine. I made another for my friend who also uses a rental scooter at Disney, with elastic and velcro so it fits a wide range. It also helps us keep from getting lost from each other in the crowd.
