I have to admit I was VERY scared (I always am where money is concerned) but I really needed to get rid of my 2 adult four day passes so I could do the MWY dining package - well they just sold for $415! Just what I paid for, which was all I wanted! I'm so relieved! Now I just have to send them out monday. I have a question, however. The buyer used Paypal and the money was in my paypal account. I just asked for the transfer to my bank account which they say takes 3-4 business days. Do you sellers out there usually wait until the money reaches your bank account before you send the item or is it safe enough that it was in my paypal account? I don't want to cheat the buyer by taking a longer time in selling; however, I don't want to make a mistake and lose my money either. Thanks for your help and thanks to all of you who convinced me to use ebay based upon your experiences you wrote on the board! :)

I always send out as soon as I've received the money in my PayPal account.

Once the money is in my PayPal account, I send the item out. I consider a PayPal payment to be instant money. The only time I do not send an item immediately is when the buyer pays from a bank account that does not have a credit card to back up the payment. For those payments, PayPal will not release the funds to the seller until they have received verification of the final transfer of funds. This can take up to a week sometimes.

PS- Congrats on your first sale! Be careful! eBaying can be very addicting!

Congratulations on your first sale! Wasn't it fun?? pirate:

I always mail as soon as I receive the Paypal payment. Make sure you use some kind of delivery confirmation, though--if the buyer claims they never received the items, Paypal will reverse the charges if you can't prove the items were delivered.

Congrats! I agree...Ebay can be addictive, especially when that paypal balance starts mounting. :D

I send the item as soon as I get the money in my PayPal account.

This is so true! I suggest using USPS Priority Mail and their free online shipping label printing. Delivery confirmation is free if you print your own labels. And now they have one-rate boxes in addition to their one-rate envelopes, both of which are supplied for free by the post office! No more having to weigh items or guess their weight!

thanks to all for the info - and mad4 - how do I know if there is no backup?

and I am addicted - my dh is going to start wondering why things are starting to be missing!

If the transaction was a bank transfer your email will say Pending Echeck and PayPal will have Uncleared in the status. I always wait until it has cleared in these cases, before shipping the item. If I receive an Instant Payment Notification and the status is Completed I send it right away.

You can start with the FAQ that's near the top of the DIS's Budget Board. The link is in my signature.

Hi, congrats! That is a great sell!! I love selling on ebay and wanted to stress for you to make sure you get delivery confirmation when paypal is used. You probably already know this, but if you can't prove delivery (delivery conf. does this) then they buyer can do a charge back and take their money back. Paypal ALWAYS sides with the buyer in this case. Oh and to answer the question, if the money is in the paypal acct. (no echecks) then I send the next AM (sometimes the same day) since the post office is a few blocks over.

i use to work at Ty do you think there is a market for beanie babies on ebay

You can do a search for completed items (regarding the beanies) to see what types are selling and for how much.... from my own experience.... they are not selling at all!!But it may be that a few really special ones are selling well...... you'd have to check....P

I want to start selling on ebay, too! How do the rates of USPS, Fedex & UPS compare? By that I mean.......which is the cheapest? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
Do they all have delivery confirmation, too? Oh, and also, what are the one rate boxes? I was going to buy a kitchen scale to weigh items, but with these boxes is that necessary? :listen: :listen: :listen: I'm ready to get my next WDW budget started!!!!! :wizard: ::MinnieMo :wizard: ::MinnieMo

I have only been selling 3 months. But, you DO need a scale. Many of us use USPS Priority alot, because they give free boxes. You will find getting the right box to be major challenge at times. Go onto the USPS website, and order your boxes. Go under the business link, more sizes are available there. I ordered some of each size to start. I use #4 and #7 the most. Order the labels, too, for items that you ship in a regular box. Do your shipping online, and you get the free confirmation from USPS as well. I now print on page size stickers, but you can print the mailing label right on a regualr piece of paper and tape it on (all 4 sides).

Ask everyone you know to give you peanuts and bubblewrap.

The USPS now has a Priority Mail Flat Rate box. Actually there are two sizes - 12" X 3.5" X 14" and 11" X 8.5" X 5.5". You can ship whatever you can fit into them, to whatever zone it needs to go to, for $7.70. Weight cannot exceed 70 lbs. If your package weighs more than 2 pounds and needs to go across the country, this is actually a less expensive way than regular Priority Mail. And like regular Priority Mail, the boxes are free.

For those of you who ship clothing in lots, this can end up being cheaper than parcel post. Those blue jeans can weigh a ton!

Make sure you get delivery confirmation. I sent out an item to a VERIFIED and CONFIRMED address. 10 days later Paypal put a hold on this (fradulent bank transaction is all they would tell me). Since I couldn't prove it was sent (no confirmation, I thought the insurance had that) I lost the money.
