I signed up!

I signed up yesterday and got my guy today. My brother is back on US soil (today) so I thought this would be good for me to do....give back some.

I signed up yesterday, got my soldier today, told Soldiers Angels they could go ahead and give my soldier my info, and got an email from him before I ever got a chance to email him. I did email him as soon as I got home from work.

Hey Christine, that's great to hear that Brody's back on home soil. How did he enjoy his cruise courtesy of the US Marines? Do you think he is going to stay in for much longer? That's really nice of you to adopt another soldier.

Thanks Tina. He enjoyed the ports they went to (Crete Greece, Spain, and a few other places) but was glad to get back on land. He could not get over how boring it was when they were out in the water - no where to go.

His 4 years are up in June so he should be home for good the end of May (time saved up from the MEU). :cool1:

When I talked to him last night he was unpacking. He did say he has alot of cool pictures to show us, he was in some old castles and such.

Cant wait to see him and give him a big hug - next weekend!!! :dance3:

Thanks for starting this thread.

I've always wanted to do something like this, but never knew where to go, and never knew if an organization was legit or not..........since some disers can attest to this organization than I'd love to sign up.

I just signed up too!
lovemygoofy, I just printed out the list that you made, thanks!
I can't wait to get our soldier. Do you think they would like letters from the kids too??

Also, could you send shampoo/conditioner?? Toiletries?

Thanks for the great ideas! How long does it typically take to get a package there?

I send my DH packages in the flat rate boxes through the PO and they usually take 4-5 days to get there. Now as for stuff that he sends back to me...that can take anywhere from 10 days to a month. But as Tina said, it all depends on where they are.

I do send my husband personal hygiene products because he is required to be clean shaven everyday and he has no access to a PX right now. If you do send toiletries make sure you put everything in ziploc bags in case of leaking or melting or exploding. I sent some hand sanitizer one time and I guess the plane never decompressurized or something and the bottle exploded all over evrything in the box. I learned after that to stick all things in ziploc bags.

Why don't you ask your soldier first just because of some allergies or preferences.

Thanks OP!

I just signed up too. I can't wait to start sending care packages!!

IWhat I recommend you doing is buying several of those 50 cent or dollar greeting cards and having them onhand and then before bed or in the morning quiet(if you have such a thing) drop a few lines in it and mail it out.
This is a terrific idea. I signed up recently also but wasn't sure what I was going to write about every week. We live in a wonderful but NON-exciting rural town.

Ok, here is my soldier's initials.

2-25 SBCT
C 1/27 IN
APO - I think this mean Air Force Post office doesn't it, because I think the Army's is FPO

2-25 - 2nd of the 15th (out of HI) SBCT - Stryker Brigade Combat Team
C - C company 1/27th - 1st of the 27th Infantry
APO - Army Post Office

A Stryker is a light armored vehicle.

Here are mine:
G 1SG MIL USA FORSCOM

I get 1st Sergeant, and USA...and I would guess that MIL is military

How about: RSS, 3d ACR

I think RSS can mean several different things. I only know it as radio subsystem because it's a communication thing, like my husband does.

ACR is armored cavalry regiment

Cav people are awesome. My husband served with the air cav in the first deployment and those are som crazy people. They wear black felt cowboy hats with the gold lasso thingy around the brim(no idea what's that called) and you know you are a real cav person if you have the belt buckle and spurs. ;) You should ask your person about that. I'm not sure if armored cav is the same as air cav but I imagine it is.
