For JasonLyons and anyone who wants the short version: DD sprained her ankle today, and will be fine in 6 weeks and I just want to give her a little pixie dust shower!! THANKS
For those who want the LONG version
At work this afternoon DD leaves me a voice message saying "Hi mom, I'm home from school, call me back right away because I need to go to the doctor, I hurt my ankle REALLY BAD and I can't walk". So I call her back and she's crying (she usually has a pretty high tolerance for pain in the different sprains, strains and concussions from soccer and horseback riding). I said What did you do??? She said "aaaaaaahh, I was pretending to be Adam Vinateri in the commons hallway after school ........he's much better at it than I am". So this was some kind of horsing around and pretending to kick a field goal then she "rolled the ankle of the not-kicking and heard a pop and fell down 'cause it hurt so bad and it swelled up like a golf ball".
So I go home, she's icing it, we call the doctor, where they say to go to the ER because their XRay service is now closed for the day...it takes over a half hour to get there because of rush hour traffic in town and a multicar accident on the highway putting a lot of traffic on the in-town roads trying to by-pass the highway. We get to the ER as the people from car crash are coming in.........fortunately these people are not severely injured, and even though DD was understandably low on the priority list, we were out of there 2 hours later, with everyone having been VERY efficient and personable and attentive.........a triage nurse, a registration clerk, another nurse, a doctor, an Xray tech, a person to tape it, another nurse to go over instructions, a check-out clerk...made sure I thanked them all.......I was really pleasantly impressed at how they ALL treated her and me at such a busy time. DD was very embarrassed at HOW she injured it and was also in a lot of pain (she told them "15" when they asked her to rate it from 1-10 (drama queen...Now WHERE did she get that from?
) But they were all very reassurring to her and the doc joked that he had called the Patriots to put her on the Injured List hehehe. Anyway, she needs crutches for 5 days then an air cast for a few weeks for stability, no gym or sports for 6-8 weeks.
Kind of a bummer - with all the snow she was looking forward to some skiing and snowmobiling weekends and was due to start in an indoor soccer league next week...but in the grand scheme of things it's minor............I told her I'd come on and solicit a little pixie dust for her! THANKS
