I should be in Barcelona tonight but ...

... our flight this morning was cancelled!

DH and I and another couple had a long weekend booked in Barcelona, flying from Bristol this morning. In view of the weather forecast, we booked a last-minute hotel near the airport and drove up last night, rather than go early this morning as we'd planned.

When we checked in, Bristol airport was okay (runway closed for an hour early morning) and our 10:20 flight was delayed (no suprise), but then at about 10 o'clock it was cancelled altogether. I think the plane we should have boarded had been stranded in Newcastle and couldn't get down to Bristol. We were told we could try to book on tomorrow's flight (no guarantee we'd get on it), or get a refund. We decided to abandon the trip and try to book again in the autumn - at least we didn't have to go this weekend for a particular occasion or anything. We'll try to get all our expenses (overnight hotel, parking, petrol, etc.) refunded as well, although I don't know what we're entitled to at this stage.

Oh well, now I'm really looking forward to our Florida trip next month! (I just hope it doesn't snow again then! )

What a pain in the butt. The stupid thing is, it hardly snowed in Bristol yesterday, even though it was forecast. Today, when it hasn't been forecast, it's coming down fairly steadily. You probably made the right decision to cancel.

There was some snow at the airport, but the roads were fine. However, when we arrived home yesterday afternoon there was not a flake of snow to be seen here.

I've just been to do the supermarket run (to fill the cupboards now that we'll be here for the weekend and not eating out in sunny Barcelona!), and it started chucking down snow by the bucket-load. The snow is now several inches thick and driving home was a nightmare! I've told DD not to attempt to drive back as she's not a confident driver at the best of times and I think this would just put her off for life! Luckily, I've managed to find her a lift with a neighbour, as the buses have stopped running.

I'm now frantically trying to gather in DH and youngest DD before they get stranded DD's college bus is, hopefully, arriving any minute now - not sure when DH will get away.
