Let me start by saying - I know that I do not know everything that was going on but I am going to have to say I have never been as appalled by the way parents were treating their children as I was at the MGM parade last week

we sat at the corner as the parade turned to go down Hollywood - we had a perfect shot as it came at us and then turned to go down the street - there was a couple next to us with a rented WDW double stroller - they placed it about 3 feet back from the line and the dad sat down in front of it with his camera - allowing their 3/4 yo DD to see the parade - the mom then STOOD in front of her about 5/6 yo DS to videotape the parade -

he told her he couldn't see and she ignored him, after several attempts to see (he was stuck in the stroller) he started to cry and begged her to move - she told him no - the dad turned around and told the kid "shut your hole!!!" My mom was next to the lady and scooted over and said here - why don't you move this way and then he can see - she said - "no he will get over it - he's fine" - the little boy continued to get more and more upset with both parents continuing to snap at him and tell him that he would just have to deal - the dad finally said to the mom - "Just ignore him and get the damn video!"

I guess the woman finally started to feel bad b/c she did try to turn her body and let him see -

I would love to try to give these parents the benefit of the doubt of what was going on but no matter how mad I am at my kids I would never speak to them in such a manner and certainly could never enjoy pictures or videotape I had taken at the expense of my child

I'm sure every time they look at that video it will bring back wonderful fond memories of the quality time they spent with their children watching in wonder as the parade went by and remembering their smiling faces... :sad2:

Thats just aweful! Poor lil boy! ARGGG I can't stand that stuff! But hey... that'll sound great on the video! They will hear themselves on there and hopefully see the way the were acting!

A recent poll was done that showed that Americans are getting more rude. If anyone out there is scratching their head and wondering why--well, there's your answer. How very sad. I too have often been in the parks and have observed ill-mannered parents barking at their children, frustrating them by their own obnoxious behavior. Disney would make a fortune if they started a parenting institute. Then again, the parents probably wouldn't sign up!

Hi!

I'm glad I have not witnessed anything like that...anywhere! :guilty: I am so sensitive when it deals with kids in general and if I see something going on, it really pulls at my heart strings. Makes me want to confront these parents and knock some sense into them...ugh! pirate: Hopefully they were just having a bad moment and it all turned around for them :sunny: :wizard:

:goodvibes :sunny: :flower: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Really sad! :(
But I can only hope that they don't behave this way all the time. Posibly this was some kind of punishment for poor behavior on the child's part (maybe the child was told he would not be allowed to watch the parade because he misbehaved earlier) ........
Sometimes we have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
HOWEVER...... still no excuse to speak to the kids that way!!!

Hate to say it.... I have seen worse behavior from parents!!!! :earseek:

OMG YES!!! I have worked in retail for almost 20 years.... and it just continues to get worse! The kids see behavior like this from their parents, then they take it just one step further.... because they can get away with it....
Then it just continues to escalate!!
Over the last few years I have really become aware of the steadily increasing rude and inappropriate behavior.... just go shopping!!!! :earseek:

The funny thing about that (I know it's not funny it's rather sad), but just think of the people watching this video? Who are they going to show it too?

Here we are at MGM enjoying the parade. All you hear is the father yelling, "shut your hole" and the kid crying. That will make a great video to show the family and friends :rolleyes1

All that fuss over getting a video that will make the mom & dad look like a horses a#$! It not only takes video folks, but audio as well. Enjoy your crappy video!

There is another thread going with how many children women should have -- SOME SHOULD NOT HAVE ONE - much less more - very sad for the children involved - my heart goes out to them - I hope the parents read the DIS and see all the responses

It doesn't really matter what had happened....there is no excuse for cursing and talking to your child in that way.

You know, it's a real shame that you need a license to drive, a license to get married, but you can procreate any old time with no preparation.

And sadly, if this is the way the parents treat their children at Disney World, chances are things aren't any better in the privacy of their own home. And I hate to say it, but even when they watch the video, they probably won't see anything wrong with their behavior but will still probably blame the child for getting upset and crying and "ruining the parade". It's sad, but these are the type of people who can never see that their own behavior is what is causing their kids to act the way they do.

Its sad that the parents probably went to the trouble of taking the trip and making the video/ taking pics in the first place FOR the kids, but I think that they will see the error of their ways when they see & hear themselves un-edited so to speak :earseek:

I thought the same thing.

When I was younger, the worst punishment my parents could have given me would have been to WATCH a parade :rotfl2:

How awful! I wouldn't stand in front of a child that I didn't know during a parade - much less one of my own!

the whole parade that day was a surreal experience - we needed some down time so we sat down about 1/2 hour before the parade and there was NO ONE else in the area - DH and I sat on the line and our kids were next to us -

About 6 little ones ended up behind us - one of them hit me and told me to move I was in his way :earseek: I did not feel it was my place to tell him that it was rude to hit me and that I was there first - I was sitting so I told him if he stood up he could see - maybe I should have moved but I sat there for the 1/2 an hour and his parents shoved him up there two minutes before the parade - when he stood up - his mom yelled at him to sit down - he pushed and hit me and DH through the whole parade!! I like to sit down next to my kids during the parade so we can laugh together and enjoy the parade as a family - and I get there early enough to make sure my kids and I have enough room - the parents who feel they can walk up in the last two minutes and then I should give up my spot for their child never cease to amaze me!

I would have spoken up once he hit me. And I definitely would have brought it to the parents attention. That is way out of line.

As for the parents who show up at the last minute...got to love them!

This is what burns me. We staked out our spots about an hour before hand. The amount of people that came the last few mins and tried to push and shove us out of the way was unreal. There was no regard to us being there (or anyone else for that matter), just "we are here, move out of the way"...sheesh.
