I'm so excited and I wanted to share that I was in NYC this weekend for my BFFs bridal shower and we went to the marathon route and saw the Chilean miner Edison Pena run by! I was glued to the tv when the miners were being rescued and it was so awesome for me to see him in person. Wow a couple of weeks ago he was deep underground thousands of miles away not knowing his fate and then he's running in the NYC Marathon! He said he ran while down in the cave to show God how much he wanted to live and the Elvis music kept his spirits up. He's a little guy, but he's a giant in my eyes! I juist wanted to share my excitement with my DIS friends.:goodvibes

I taped Letterman the other night when I heard he was going to be on it. I would have loved to see him running his marathon. Those men are amazing.

It must have been very exciting to have seen him. What an inspiring story!

That's so awesome!!!I was glued to the tv that night/day/night too! We even watched some of it live in my classroom, my students were so excited to see them bring one of the miners up! I saw him on Letterman the other night and thought he was just fantastic! How was doing on his run? Looked good?

He ended up walking part of the way and stopped to have ice bags put on his knees but he was really doing a good pace. I was surprised how short he was, like maybe 5'4" but he's built. He was running with 3 other Chileans (not miners lol) and a motorcycle cop with a sidecar cameraman. He waved a few times as he was in my view but I didn't get to make eye contact to get a personal wave. He was wearing sunglasses.

Is he going to get to go to Graceland while he is here?

Graceland invited him to come for a visit. What fun! Did he finish the marathon? I heard he'd never run more than 10 miles in his life.

He finished in just under 6 hours. Amazing. I got back to my friend's apt to see him on TV going through the finish line. It's crazy how life is, under the ground trapped like that in a small town so far away and then he's running the NYC marathon a few weeks later! I love inspirational things like that! I just hope he can adjust going back to a "normal" life back home after all this.

Hi Mrs. Darcy,
Thanks for sharing. That is cool that you got to see him. The story is an amazing one. :thumbsup2

I too was so engrossed in their rescue! So glad he was able to run in the marathon! Thanks for sharing!
