And was shocked by her appearance.. (Stopped watching the show a long time ago..) She looked like she was moving very, very slowly and I could have sworn I saw gray hair..:confused3 For some reason, I immediately thought she looked quite a bit like Della Reese..

Is she having health issues or something? How does she look on the show these days?

I don't know if she's having health issues. On a recent show, I thought she looked great and I loved her hair. I will say that it appears that she has regained all of her weight back. And while I agree she is much, much more than her weight, I find it shameful for her that she has gained it back.

Far be it from me to defend Oprah - I never did - until now.

Shameful? Really?

I'm guessing you don't have weight issues, and never have. More people than not regain the weight they lose.

I am truly hoping that "shameful" was a misuse of the word. If not, then I find it to be VERY inappropriate and disrespectful. You don't know her situation (nor do I, of course) and it's unfair to assume that she gained her weight back by sitting on the couch with a box of bonbons. :sad2:

unfortunately I thought I recognized this poster's name, and I do think she meant it...she has also penned such gems as the following in the 'do you shop at lane bryant' thread on the CB
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2303142

note that the ETA was after a few posters quoted her and said that what she said wasn't um, the nicest thing to say?

Um, no, thank god, I don't.

Edited to add...I actually gave up shopping for a year, but those coupons are a dime a dozen...I get them from New York all the time and just throw them out. They come like every other day it seems.

Ohhhh yeah, I remember that, thought the name sounded familiar.

And thyroid problems mean that if you are hypo (as many women are) you may lose weight, but then gain it back wayyy easily, even if you are still dieting and exercising.

As to the 'shameful' comment...I agree with the others, clearly that poster has never struggled with weight -- thyroid issues or not!

Wow aren't we just a little ray of sunshine today. Ever heard of the word tact?

Wow. I find it shameful that you are ignorant about the fact that she is suffering from thyroid issues. Even if she did not have a health problem, she should not feel "shameful".

Apparently bigots come in all types, shapes and sizes just like people in general do.

Oprah is also a survivor of sexual abuse as a child. Many women who struggle with food issues were abused as children and teens. It's amazing how quick some people are to judge others without having a clue what they've had to deal with. If it were as simple as "eat less, exercise more", we wouldn't have the soaring rates of obesity in our country. Usually obesity is a psychological issue, not a matter of being lazy or having no "willpower".

I wouldn't give the poster who made a rude comment a moment of my time because it's obvious that what their issue is...a need for attention.

I'm not a fan of Oprah, but I have seen her recently on tv and in magazines. She looks a bit haggard. Something is going on, for sure, if you ask me. Not sure if it's physical or mental. But I wish her all the best, and I hope she's feeling back to herself soon.

Why should Oprah be ashamed of anything? Her success and philanthropy are admirable.

I wonder if Steve Wozniak (look it up!) constantly has to field off comments about his weight.

Oh brother, give me a break. I guess I did use the wrong word, or not in the context it sounded. I am a diehard Oprah fan and have been for years. I loved how her show has evolved over the years to a "Living your best life" etc.

Oprah has always said that when she gains weight, it means that something in her or her life is out of balance, and that is what she has always passed on...getting your life to be in balance.

Clearly, something in her life is out of balance right now. Maybe that is why she is moving on from her show, sadly.

But whatever...now someone can go back (as someone on the DIS always does) and quote all my old postings and make me look worse than ever.

And you're right-I have never had a weight problem. Then again, I get up at 4 in the morning and fight it off like others. So...go ahead, have a good day and spend it picking me apart and then you too, can feel superior for "picking" someone else apart.

Whatever. I'm out of here.

The bolded part of the above post is what I was referring to.. I know nothing about her weight - haven't watched her in years - so I don't know if it's gone up, down, or stayed the same - nor does it matter to me..

I think you meant to say that "it's a shame" that she has gained the weight back, which I agree. You're not implying that she should BE ashamed. Is that accurate?

Not an Oprah fan or follower. However, she has a busy, hectic lifestyle. It is understandable if she would look tired. While she has a wonderful team of makeup artists working with her, I'm sure there are times when she may wish to be more natural or get caught by a "stars without makeup" photographer.

It could be that Oprah, unlike so many others in the spotlight, is choosing to age naturally, so part of her look may be the lack of "plastic" that is seen so frequently. If this is the case, she should be applauded.

Oh, and I find "The Woz" adorable in that super geeky way. ;)

Exactly!

Except for a bit of Botox, maybe, I don't think Oprah has had an work done. She is an over-50 woman. What do you expect her to look like? Yep, she has aged but I think she still looks pretty good.

Didn't Oprah announce last year that's she dealing with some thyroid problems? I totally empathize with her. I have been fighting the weight for years. I'm back up to a 12-14, and really I'm kidding myself, cause the 12s are getting tight. It can be really hard sometimes. I swore last time I lost 30lbs I wouldn't gain it back again. You never really know what someone else is going through, and for some people, me included they wear the stress in the form of extra pounds.
