I DIDN'T KNOW IF THIS WAS THE RIGHT PLACE TO POST THIS BUT JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT WE SAW THE 75TH BIRTHDAY MICKEY STATUES IN PHILADELPHIA YESTERDAY ! WE ATTENDED THE SHAREHOLDERS MEETINGS AND TO THE AMAZMENT OF MOSTLY EVERYONE...THERE THEY WERE ! AT INTERMISSION,WE SEARCHED FOR SOME (AND FOUND)DISPOSABLE CAMERAS AND TOOK PICTURES OF ALL OF THEM. WE WON'T BE MAKING OUR TRIP TO WDW UNTIL MAY 04' AND WE WERE "BUMMED" THAT WE'D MISS THE STATUES...BUT THEY CAME TO US ! I WAS TRULY A "MAGICAL DISNEY DAY" AND ON TOP OF THAT,WE MET,SPOKE WITH,AND WERE ABLE TO GET ROY DISNEY'S AUTOGRAPH !:bounce:

Aren't they great? We saw them when they were still at WDW, and I have to admit, they made me awe-struck! Reminds me of New Orleans and the painted fish they did. If you're ever in N.O. and see a big painted fish, know this: They were made in a set of 50, and each was unique. They then auctioned them off to companies & private buyers to support (I think) a breast cancer charity.

I really wanted to go but couldn't get there yesterday. Any mention if they are taking their time to pack them up(maybe I could get a peek Saturday?)

How cool!!!!! I wished I could have gone - kids in school. I probably should have pulled them - they're the share holders. Family gave them shares as Christening gifts.

Supposedly her statue of Mic was removed and replaced with another one. Did it happen and do you know which one replaced her?

It was replaced by one from Luis Fernandez a Disney artist. I find it odd that it remained in front of the park until the last day they were there and suddnely Disney decided to shelve it rather than send it to the meeting and on tour. This decision didn't come until nearly a month after the incident. Apparently it was ok to be seen in the park by tons of families but not by tons of shareholders.

Samirella,
I don't think they just hadd an extra mickey lying about. I suspect they had to had him cast anddesign approved before he could be ateempted.

Since they were suppose to be here until April there was a great deal of speculation about where they might have had an "invitation" to that would be powerful enough to persuade Eisner to move them early. Many would have laid heavy odds on the shareholders meeting. There was a great deal of discussion about it as soon as the announcement was made that they would be leaving early. As they were not expected to begin their tour until April I almost would imagine that economically it would make sense to let them remain there for some period of time.

I saw them too!! We are going next week and were sorry to think we were going to miss them.I read on this board that they were going to be in Philadelphia so I went over to see them. They really are beautifol and I am so glad I saw them. More great info from this board!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Where in Philly are they? I sure hope they stay for a week or two, I want to see them!

Thanks!

I don't recall saying there was an extra Mickey lying about. I just pointed out how I found it strange that they would let Janet's Mickey remain at the front of the park and then suddenly decide (a month after the incident) that it was too controversial to send to the shareholder's meeting and then on to tour. It was obviously just fine to keep at the park. Unless you were trying to make the point that they would need a new one to replace it before they took it out (your post really isn't that clear to me). In that case, all 75 statues weren't all out together the entire time. Several were broken (from guests letting the little ones climb all over them...even though they were roped off) and kept backstage. I went to see them a couple days before they were shipped off and when I go to the website I can count seven that I didn't see in person (of course one of those is the one that replaced Janet's).

are they still at the convention center and can anyone just go in a see them?

I just spoke with the convention center. They disappeared as quickly as they appeared.

Guess I need to find something else to do tomorrow:(
