I reserved the Dolphin - Is this a good rate?

I booked the Dolphin for $189.50, one night, towards the end of April. I decided that I wanted to stay onsite this time. In October I pricelined a room in Downtown Disney. It poured rain the day we were there & we had to drive in a terrible rain back to the hotel. As much as I love a bargain, this time I decided I was staying as close to Epcot as possible. Do you think I could have gotten a better discount if I had waited? I'm not used to spending this much for a room. The last time I paid this much was the year AKL opened. However, for once I wanted to be close to Epcot. Could I have gotten a better deal booking the Contemporary (no view) waiting until Florida resident rates came out? At least its only a monorail ride away from Epcot. Finally, I'm a Starwood member - I gave them my # with my ressie. Can I get an upgrade?

It seems like a good rate to me. I just booked two rooms at the Swan for June. One with Starpoints and the second for 199.99 for 9 nights, the last night went up to 270ish. The reservation desk said they were nearly full for mid June.

I'm not sure about upgrades. This is the first time I have ever redeemed Starwood points for our rooms. My DH travels alot and is Platinum and hopes to be upgraded after we arrive. :D

Gold and platinum Starwood members are first to get upgrades. Platinum members are automatically upgraded to the best room available.

Check your reservation online on the Starwood site and see if they've upgraded you.

Thank you Mikki and Gepetto! Looks like this is a ressie I'm hangin' onto! Looking forward to finally staying at the Dolphin.

for that time of year I don't think you will find a better deal. :D

That sounds like a pretty good rate these days. Dolphin has a 1 week cancellation policy, so if you decide to go with the Contemporary you won't have to pay a penalty.

does anybody know of a website where I can look into becoming a Starwood member? Thanks

You mentioned FL resident rates... those are usually pretty good.... definitely keep your Dolphin reservation but keep an eye out for the other rates to come out just in case they are better. You can always change your mind later. ;)

$189 is a GREAT rate for the Dolphin!! :cloud9: Especially when others are quoting much higher rates for similar time periods. You will love the close proximity to Epcot, with the ability to walk back to your resort if desired! :D *(AND...as Erika posted, I would definitely keep an eye-out for any special rates for Fla. ressies!).

tiffanym5375~They do send a card, but some have posted in regards to the extended wait. I would give them a call, and inquire about your SPG card. Also, I believe you are able to "print" a card off the website. I recall someone posting about this very thing. I just can not remember "how" they did this! (sorry). Maybe someone else can help here. :scratchin

mikki~Platinum guests are treated very well by Starwood resorts. I too, am fortunate to have Platinum status with this chain, and enjoy the perks where ever I travel. Even if I've used points for a reservation, or FREE-NIGHTS, they still award you the plat. perks. This is not so with most other frequent-travel programs *(whom merely "tout" such recognition). Most starwood properties I visit take notice upon check-in, and reflect sincere appreciation for our business/loyalty through upgrades, etc. It's the best guest program in the BIZ! ::yes::

Enjoy your visits to this MAGICAL resort!! :cloud9: The HEAVENLY BEDS are reason enough to stay here.

I've signed up over a month ago. Do they send me a card, because i never got one?

If you go to the SPG.com website and login, you can go to account links and then to replace card. Make sure all the info is correct and they will send you a new card and also allow you to print a temporary card.

That is the rate we were quoted, but we upgrade to Club Level for $85 more. For us the food is worth it. So I would say it is a good rate. Jay

I'm so happy to hear that $189 is a good rate. I have always wanted to stay at the Dolphin. I'm looking forward to NOT having to drive to a hotel!

I know there is a code for the Swan, I believe it is for the Dolphin also. I called the Swan the other to ask about rates for standard rooms. I was quoted $240 (I think). Then I gave the girl the code and got the standard room for $169 ($181 with tax and resort fee). I'm not sure what type of room you got, but if you got a standard room, you might want to check into that. I don't want to list the code, because I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that (but I think its a public code).

You could check into this, and then offer the code via PM (as most codes, etc. should not be listed on here in case they are not permitted by the resort). That is a fantastic rate for the Swan! :cool1: Was this code emailed to you, or sent in the mail, etc.? How was it obtained?

I found the code on a website I found through the Dis. If anyone is interested in the code, I can tell you where to get it from if you PM me. I'm really glad to hear it is such a great rate. We've never stayed there before so I'm not sure about the rate history and we are getting married at the Swan in June, and with the code we can now afford to stay there also.
