I refused to sign...

I refused to sign the HIPPA statement when I went to pick up my DH's medicine from the pharmacy. You should have seen the bevvy of sick people at the counter all using the same pen to sign the electronic thingy.

It's bad enough that my DH will probably share the flu with me... I don't need a stranger to help it along.

I'd have been happy to sign a paper statement... with my OWN pen.

I am zealous about not touching bathroom doors or handrails - someone who has not washed their hands has pushed that door - but think about atms, currency, shopping carts, taxi cab doors, elevator buttons, and on and on. There is only so much you can do.

I got his cough medicine. The clerk took that icky pen and wrote that I refused to sign.

It probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if there wasn't so much hacking going on in the pharmacy area today.

Ignorance is often blissful.

RUDisney...

I totally understand your point...What part didn't the pharmacy get? I can only imagine how many brutal germs were waiting on the counter too for some unsuspecting fool. Every cough, every sneeze, it's right on the counter!

(Excuse me while I hop onto my soapbox!)

There...

Do you ever get ticked off going into a fast food restaurant, order a soda (or pop -if you are in a different part of the country) and have them place the cup upside down on the counter? EWWWW. YUCCHHH! GROSSSS! Parents let their kids sit on the counters - I can't help but think that this is a very germy place. And then, when I will ask for a different cup - they look at me like I am really, really strange.

I make it a point to not use any co-workers phones either.

Yes, I may be a germ fanatic, but I haven't been sick in over 3 years either.

(HOP)

I'm off my soapbox now!

OMG! I won't even take the bottom coffee cup from the cabinet at work. I don't know when the last time.. if ever.. those cabinets were cleaned. I've had someone had me the bottom cup several times and then laugh at me when I tell them, "thanks, but I don't want the bottom cup."

RUDisney...can I work with you???

I really ticked off a coworker this month. Really-really ticked her off. And she has a really-really big mouth. So everyone in the whole darn hospital knows I ticked her off. And we only employ 3000 people give or take a few.

We had a Christmas luncheon about 2 weeks ago. The order to the Olive Garden got screwed up, and we ended up short 1 entree. There were several of us who had not opened up our entrees yet, so the 3 of us offered to give this person part of our meals. (And - actually the "shorted" person got Chicken Alfredo, lasagna and mushroom-something ravioli - not bad!) My really-really loud coworker was insulted that I wouldn't take anything from her entree, which would have added spaghetti to the other 3 entrees. The problem was SHE HAD ALREADY STARTED EATING HER ENTREE. So, she was already breathing close to it, etc. She really chastised me for being inconsiderate, talked about it for the whole lunch celebration. Eventhough this coworker maintained that the part she was offering was part that she had not yet touched. EWWWW! YECHHHH! GROSSSS!

I'm with you on the coffee cup thing too. As far as I'm concerned, the last cup is merely a "place holder" and is meant to be thrown away.

I don't see the problem. The germs don't enter through the skin on your hand. I would have just signed it and immediately washed my hands with soap and water without touching my eyes, nose, or mouth.

OR you could have washed your hands directly after, before getting the chance to touch your face. But, congratulations on giving the pharmacy tech grief. I'm sure that "fool" really needed it. Oh, Merry Christmas to you, too. 'Tis the season.

Oh, I should add that you should have refused to have taken the meds, too. After all, that bottle had been touched by people who touched pens, computers, and phones. The horror!

WOW - that seems a bit extreme. After the clerk signed the form for your refusal did she hand you the bag with your medicine, or give you any change? Or did she pick up that pen anytime during her shift to move it, or touch money handed to her by some "coughing customer? " I'll bet she did and those same germs got transfered to the bag that held your DH's medicine, so in the end you probably got just as many germs. I can understand being careful, but that seems to be a bit much to me. I make it a point to wash my hands when ever I return home from somewhere, other than that I don't worry about germs - and I am quite healthy!
