I received my confirmation from Contemporary

and I had requested the water view, first floor in the North Wing (through shades of green) - the confirmation reads 'Wing-Variable". Does this sound right??

Yes. The only view types in the garden wing are standard view; there is no water view category. The confirmation could not show a water view for a wing room as that is not a view type that Disney sells. As long as you have a Garden View Standard room reserved you definitely may still get a water view but the confirmation will not show that.

I paid $10 extra per night so hopefully it will be a nice view.
