I know that this is not necessariiy a DIS queston, bu I don't know who else to ask. On Tuesday, I turned on my computer to go to "Print Shop" to finish printing a few envelopes. But when I tried to open it, I got a message that said I have to change my setting to 256. I went to "Display" in my Control Panel and then to "settings" to reset my color setting from 16 colors(I don't know how it even changed to that setting) to 256 colors, along with the pixel setting to a higher setting. I pressed Apply which brought me to a screen saying that I would have to restart my computer. I pressed "Yes" and did so. When my computer started up again, it went back to the same 16-color setting!! I did this several times, but to no avail. I also downloaded Norton's AntiVirus, but guess what? no virus detected!!! I then tried "SecondChance" which enables your computer to "go back" to any previous time. THAT didn't work either. I am really at the end of my rope [Oh, I also tried to Defragment my files, but after an hour it was still at 0% (even when I clicked on "Show Details...." the screen was blank; it didn't have those little boxes) so I just closed that down, too]. Can anybody give me suggestions....???? (By the way, my computer is a Systemax - you know, the one advertised on that Infomercial...I tried sending an e-mail to their webste www.systemaxpc.com but they haven't answered my email!!!)

This could get fairly involved and isn't really the kind of thing that quick advice would cure for sure. Quick advice could actualy make things worse. You can check the device manager and see if the drivers are current for both the monitor and video card but other than that, get manufacturer support if it is available.
