our daughter was recently diagnosed with juvenile arthritis, how does the climate affect you with it, better or worst? we do not know what to expect, we are in northern Canada now and the change to warmer weather is horrible for her

I dont have J/A, but I do have arthritis.. and for me the warmer climates actually help... but when its humid it can be worse... I make sure I take my meds.. move and if possible adjust slowly to the temp change.. hope you have a great trip..

here is a link to a web site the doctor explains that there is no real scientific reasons that have been really researched but over the years he has looked into some reasons...

I'm sure everyone is different and depending on where you live it may be different. I know when I live in Georgia vs New Jersey my allergies are completely different. I do have JRA and have for 50 years. Warmer weather is more difficult for me because (1) it's the air conditioning that can be very painful, more so than naturally cold weather. At least in cold weather you clothes cover but warmer you are exposed (2) humidity/rain can make me ache more. I agree that if she is on anti-inflammatory be sure she takes them. Always have a light jacket or small throw with you - in shows, restaurants and things that have high A/C I can throw it on or cover my legs.

This will be a learning experience for us too. one of our daughters has also recently been diagnosed and I have found this winter to be rough for her. we are going in april so the gradual warm up we will feel here until we go may be good...or not....will have to see!

I'm not too familiar with juvenile arthritis in particular, but am plagued with a variety of other things and have come to understand that both severe cold, severe heat and humidity can all negatively affect autoimmune disorders. Going December through to February would be ideal for her weather wise. She'd benefit from leaving our harsh cold and wouldn't have to deal with the hot humidity that the tropical regions are subjected to.
