OK we are old fashion on I-phones
We still have I-phone 5's

Before we go to WDW - should we upgrade to newer I-phones?

Are the newer I-phones better and faster with apps like the Fast Pass plus app ?

What level I-phone do you recommend?

We would like to be able to acquire additional FP+ at WDW, when we are not at our home computer. If our I-phone 5's are not fast or are out dated for the Fast Pass plus app, we will be out of luck.
Thank you

I just got a new iPhone ( I had the 5's) new I have the 8 the only thing I can see is the battery last a lot longer on my new phone.

Have you updated your phone and have at least iOS 9? If you have that or the latest 11.1.2 update, you should be fine.

The newly updated MDE app only works on iOS 9 or better.

We will get new I-phones soon
Our DD only has an I-phone 7
So if we, DH & DW, get an I-phone 9
Our DD will be so jealous ! ;)

There isn’t an iPhone 9...iOS 9 is the operating system for your iPhone; you update the iOS in Settings.

Plug in to the wall, get on wifi and run software update in settings- should work, if not be terribly fast. Play with the MDE app while you're still home. That'll give you a good idea of how it will perform in the park. If you aren't happy with it, the cheapest up-to-date iPhone right now is the SE. (which is the same size and shape as your 5, just faster and with a fingerprint scanner to unlock.) A new SE should run about $350.

If you stick with your 5, consider bringing a small USB battery and cord with you. Older batteries don't last as long. The Fuel Rods they sell at the park are not the cheapest, but they'll work and you can swap them mid-day.

Does the upgrade iOS 9 work on an I-5 phone ?
Should I go to the Verizon store and let them do the upgrades on my phone?

You can do it yourself:
Go to Settings on your phone
Go to General where you should see a ‘red’ notice
That’s the software update. If you’ve never updated your phone before, you should have the Red notice.

I have to disagree with most of the advice that you'll be fine. I have an iPhone 4, and while I could get on MDE it was very, very slow in the parks. I often grabbed my adult daughter's iphone 7 and it loaded so fast and I could navigate so much easier to change FPs. Your phone carrier may make a difference too in regards to speed. So, yeah I'd look to getting an updated phone. BTW I have the latest operating system downloaded.

I've been using my iPhone 5c in the parks this week and have had no problems with MDE. I haven't updated the iOS in a long while, either. I did bring a portable battery charger stick but didn't always need to use it.

I wouldn't get a new phone just for Disney if you're happy with the one you have.

You can still get additional same day fast passes in the parks even if you don't have a smart phone. You would just have to use one of the kiosks in the park to make the fast passes that day.

If any member of your party has a phone that can run MDE, that person can sign into the MDE that you are all linked to and make the fP for the whole group.
