After picking up the Kim Possible Kim-municator in Norway the ladies met James and I in Germany and we went to Biergarten. Our ADR was for 1:00 and we were about ten minutes early. After waiting about a minute, we were seated and Axel, our server, introduced himself. We gave him our drink orders and made our way to the buffet. Heres my first plate where I got a taste of the various salads, pretzel bread, and a couple of sausages.
James asked if I wanted to take a picture of his plate, so I said, sure. I thought his selections were kind of funny. Hed filled his plate and had barely made it out of the salad section of the buffet, except for a meatball and some kind of gelatinous meat mixture that I knew he wouldnt like. He didnt.
Heres a shot of Judy and Marlene with the flash off so you can get a sense of the room. I have a better shot of the room coming up a few pictures down.
Judy and Marlene.
Heres my second plate, where Ive worked my way down the buffet line a little further. I had a meatball, salmon, some potatoes, cheese spaetzle with glazed onions, applesauce, and weiner schnitzel. Allears.net lists it as Schnitzel Weiner Art (Breaded Pork Schnitzel Vienna Style). Ive had the good fortune to visit Vienna (actually my DW earned the trip for us through her direct-selling business) and try their schnitzel (Wien = Vienna), which is pounded down more, until about half the thickness of this one and it would have taken up the whole width of the plate. But this one was good enough to bring the memory back to my mind, and while I just sampled some of the other items I took, I ate all of this baby. Looking at this picture, it looks like James had already started on dessert. I didnt remember that -- I was just getting started! I think thats vanilla pudding with chocolate chips in the upper-right of the picture.
I wanted to make sure that we got to see the oom-pah band, Oktoberfest Musikanten, so thats part of the reason why I made our ADR time for 1:00, I had seen on a Disney World entertainment website that they started at 1:15, so I figured that would give us time to begin eating and then enjoy the entertainment. And right on cue
Heres a good shot of the overall room. Leave it to Disney to be able to make you feel like youre outside, at night, in Germany, enjoying Octoberfest. The theming even included a full moon.
Marlene started on dessert. This was like a berry concoction (looking at allears.net I think its called Rote Gruetze with Vanilla Sauce, although she didnt get the sauce) and Blackforest Cake. She loved them both, but especially the berry concoction.
Lauren enjoying herself.
Heres Judys dessert sampler. The item in the upper left was a strawberry-rhubarb kind of thing. I dont see it listed on allears.net. Then going around the plate: apple strudel, Bavarian cheese cake, and Blackforest cake. Judy loved the cheesecake. It had a different consistency than the cheesecake were used to -- it was creamier.
The band began their beer barrel battle of the bells, or maybe it was battle of the beer barrel bells. I dont know. I think Ive got all the right words in there, just not sure about the order.
I went to get dessert and a guy in the band started playing this Alphorn. Judy took this picture. I think its her only one of the trip.
Sorry, but I cant look at this picture and not think, Ricola!
Partway through our lunch an older couple was seated with us. They lived in Forth Worth, TX and the wife grew up in Germany, so she carried on a little conversation with Axel. Im jealous of people who can speak multiple languages fluently. Anyway, when I came back from getting my dessert, the husband asked if I would like him to take our picture. Its one of my favorites from the trip.
And lastly, my dessert sampler. The apple strudel was good, but I think my favorite was the cheesecake also.
We all really enjoyed our meals. I would definitely eat here again.
After we returned home, Judy told me that this was one of her favorite meals of the trip, but then added "after Boma, of course" since Boma is one of our all-time favorites.
In the next installment: Club Cools Beverly and wrap up the day.
