I ordered Photopass prints, someone ELSE received them (m)

I'm not sure what to think of this....I ordered photopass prints on Tuesday. Wednesday I got a shipping email from WDW (although it does NOT include a tracking number). Thursday I get an email from a total stranger saying that he ordered and received HIS pics and mine were also included in the package. If I send him my mailing address, he'll mail me the pics. He says there are 8 pics (I only ordered 7, but maybe he's counting a proof sheet?) I'm wondering how the heck he got my email addy though? Unless they also included my shipping slip in his pkg, but then wouldn't he already have my mailing address too?

Because of the inconsistancies (7 pics vs 8, has my email but not my postal addy, how quickly he would have received the pics after I ordered), makes me a little nervous about giving this person my real address. What if he somehow picked up my email addy from somewhere online (maybe even hacked from the WDW site) and took a chance that I ordered photopass and is phishing for more personal info?

I did email WDW photopass with this info to see if they can possibly track my shipment or look into his name/email addy and confirm whether or not he really had an order recently (in which case, he's probably telling the truth). But I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

Any thoughts on this? Oh, and if by any chance, the person who emailed me also reads these boards and sees this msg, please please please don't be offended that I'm scrutinizing your intentions. I'm only doing it for my own family's safety....with so many wackos in the world, I can only be so safe about giving out personal info. ;o)

Could you have it sent to work? I will say, when we reviewed our photopass on-line, there were other peoples pictures attached to our account. Not quite sure Disney has all this "technology" figured out!

I thought about that....giving him my work address. But then (I'm a pessimist who doesn't trust people online too easily, esp when they ask for personal info), what if he did get my email from phishing and he starts sending me a bunch of junk/porn/offensive crap to my work address? Yikes!

On the email you received tuesday from Disney--is there a shipping address located on it? Could be possible that they included this in the order and that would explain how he received your email address and not your postal address if it wasnt listed.

Call Disney and see how long it takes to ship--if they say the same or next day, then its possible. You could always email him back and ask what the pics look like---if he describes them, then he must have received them. ???

Don't do anything until you hear from Disney. This does sound phishy to me. If you have not heard back from Disney in 24hrs contact them again and make it clear that you think this is some sort of scam.

Chances are your batch of prints just went into the wrong mailing envelope, an honest mistake.

If this other person sends the prints to you promptly, everything is fine and no need to get more involved. But don't waste lots of time and telephone charges and postage dealing with this other person. Instead tell Disney to make up (another) set of prints and send them to you at no extra charge.

It's probably not a scam. There is no confidentiality or privacy issue. All Photopass pictures are taken out in the open and the scene that was photographed could have been seen by any number of park guests.

Could you have them mailed to your local post office as 'General Delivery' and then go pick them up? I think most post offices allow you to do this, but you might want to call them to check.

I agree that this person is probably completely honest and being kind by offering this, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I had something similar happen last year with Xmas present I ordered. I ordered address labels for a lot of family members. When my order came it included someone elses order also. Their address was on the packing slip included in my package.
I agree with emailing them and asking for them to describe the pictures. That's a great idea.
Or if you're uncomfortable, Disney should just resend your order if you call.

We ordered ours last week and had no problems thay came within 4 days. I would get in touch with disney if i was you.

We had something similar happen though not with Disney. When we returned from WDW & DCL in April we uploaded our digital prints to walmart.com. When I picked them up I was missing about 30 of our prints and received about 30 of someone elses. Wal-mart didn't know what to do with them, they told us to through them away. Well, these pictures were very special - they were of a new baby. Thinking back on the hopsital losing our DS's pictures we didn't just want to toss them. My DH looked very closely at the pictures and found the hospital name on the bassinet in the picture. He did an internet search for the hospital. We looked up the nursery on the hospitals site and they have new baby listings. From the picture we could see the little girls name and date she was born. We found her last name and called the hospital. My DH spoke to a nurse, who must have either thought him completely nuts or the greatest guy in the world. He told her what happened and asked that she call the parents to tell them we had their pictures. He gave her our names and telephone number to pass on to them IF they wanted to get in touch with us. The next morning the dad called very excited we had them. He gave us their address in Rochester NY and we sent them!!

Just goes to show how easy it can be to track someone down with limited info..
