For a reading lesson we do, my class sings a version of the "A Hunting We Will Go Song." At the end, we "catch" an animal. I give them the sounds in the word and then they have to blend it together to make the words. I use all cvc (consonant, vowel, consonant) words. In other words, all the animals have to have three sounds: a consonant sound, a vowel sound, followed by a consonant sound. Examples would be cat, mule, mouse. (In other words, the sound structure is what is important, not the spelling.)
I am starting to run out of animals! Can you please help me think of some animals that use the cvc phoneme structure? I tried googling it and wasn't able to find anything. Thanks!
ETA: Words where an "r" follows the vowel, the r is considered part of the vowel sound. So the word horse would be considered a cvc word. Phonetically it would be: /h//or//s/
