I need your feedback on 'Ohana

Thanks Muushka, that is my point EXACTLY :thumbsup2 ...The "god auful potatoes comments" (am I a good speller or what?) is meerly meant as humor, poking a little good natured fun at those who like (or love) them knowing that I am so adamantly against them at the Polynesian...

It really does no good to compare who liked the old to who likes the new, as the old is no longer available. All you have right now, is the new menu. Let me just say that I used to go every six months or so, and now that I am not as convienently located, I will probably spend my dining time elsewhere, as I did not enjoy it that much in February.

orljustin, I disagree somewhat in that it is my hope that the powers that be (who do monitor these websites) will take note, not that they're likely to change a financial windfall but perhaps they will notice that a significant number of folks are questioning WDW's dedication to quality and innovation in this area.

Great thread! we are trying this place in October!!! we have tried the old menu, so looking forward to the new :)

If you are a person trying to decide whether to go next week or not, worrying about the past menus does no good. If you have some other agenda, then ...

We enjoyed Ohana enough in October to go again in 2 weeks. I like that there seems to be a side dish and a meat for every taste. Frankly, if you ate some of every item presented, you'd be stuffed to capacity before the skewers showed up.

I'm glad there's no pineapple bread. I would stuff my face before the real food came. Salad was delicious and refreshing. Wonton chips were tasty but light. My kids ate a lot of shrimp, I ate the wings. They made a special noodle bowl for my older DD as she was vegetarian then. We all glutted on the dessert...

I thought Ohana was wayyyy ono and we enjoyed the view of Hallowishes with the music piped in.

:thumbsup2

Hey, you spelled my name right, you can't be that slow! :teacher:

Doh, I is a collage gradiate you no. :lmao:

Right you are orljustin, I too am local and my biggest concern is long term quality including innovation, creativity and consistency and these boards give a good feel for the current status if you can read between the lines, which is why I participate...Plus I love Disney & I love food. The boards aren't just for folks who visit once a year, IMO.

We will be trying this on our trip in october. It sounds wonderful and we never did try the old menu so we should be good to go..

we ate there last september and it was absolutely delicious. Our waiter, Cousin Joe was awesome- never left us sitting with empty plates. The meat is awesome and you can see them cooking right in the pit. We are trying the Luau Show this year instead though- I am hoping for the same kind of service and great food.

We went in March. We have eaten the old menu at least 3 times and loved it! But the new menu was awesome! I kept sitting there wondering what in the world people were complaining about! The only thing that I miss from the old menu was the green beans. I did think the veggies looked like something from a frozen bag. But overall we liked all the changes. It was the best meal we had on property all week! Our service and servers were also wonderful, maybe we were just lucky. In fact our server took so much time with our girls, she was really sweet. No complaints here. I don't understand how anybody could not like the bread pudding! We can't wait to go back on our next visit!

We'll let you know soon. We have Mother's Day dinner ADR at 'Ohanas this Sunday (our 1st dinner upon arrival). Won't be able to compare to old menu as this will be our 1st venture there.

DH, DD8, DS8, and I are back now from our wonderful trip (still love the Poly!) and ate at both 'Ohana and Kona -- newbies at both.

As far as 'Ohana's food, DH and I said it was "so so". We loved the entertainment for the kids, but felt if you are going strictly for the food, you should definitely go to Kona (heavenly food and desserts are truly masterpieces!).

Thank you to disers for giving us the heads up that earlier 'Ohana seatings get rushed. We had a 5:10 seating and the dishes were coming fast and furious. Finally I said that we really were feeling rushed and could they please let us enjoy one set of food offerings before they brought the next. BIG BIG improvement, and the offerings from that point on came at the proper speed.

Big ick thumbs down to the wonton chips, and the shrimp was so-so (we both love shrimp but felt this dish was hard to eat and had too much "stuff" on the shrimp). Chicken wings seemed out of line with other offerings and nothing special, so we each tried one and saved our tummies for other things. We both thought the steak was very flavorful and cooked just right -- thumbs up! -- not at all over or undercooked as others have posted. The scalloped potatoes were tasty, although I was feeling rather guilty eating what I assume was pretty caloric. I asked for seconds on the steak, and passed on the sausage and turkey, but DH tried all three and felt the steak was by far the best. He also enjoyed the salad.

Neither DS8 nor DD8 ate anything besides a few wonton chips, and were happy to have Kona hamburger and hot dog, respectively.

Bread pudding with bananas and vanilla ice cream was a big hit all around!

Cannot speak highly enough about Kona for dinner. Don't let the casual look fool you. Our kids' meals including gorgeous desserts cost the same as 'Ohana and DH's and my meals were also about the same and were delicious. Glad we tried 'Ohana and Kona -- with Kona being one that we would definitely eat at again.

I will try to send an email later but here is my general comments.

We actually enjoy the new menu and like what is on it. While there are a couple of things we miss, we enjoy the substitutes just as well. We have been through several changes of the menus through the years and after each change we thought it wouldn't be any good. But each time we have enjoyed the new things. This is the same and I would be willing to guess in a year or so this menu will change as well. We also think the bread pudding is to die for.
